Job description
Medical Malpractice Defense Attorney | Fairfax, Richmond, Roanoke or Virginia Beach, VA (Hybrid) | $115,000 to $225,000+
Somewhere in Virginia this week, a plaintiff’s lawyer is chasing a signature.
The expert certification has to be in hand before they can ask for service. The doctor they lined up has gone quiet. The clock hasn’t.
You’d spot that from the other side of the room. A national defense firm wants to pay for that instinct, and I’m the recruiter helping them find it.
They need a medical malpractice defense attorney in Virginia, and they’ll hire at any level.
Associates with 3 to 7 years usually land between $115,000 and $150,000. Senior attorneys with 8 to 15 years sit around $140,000 to $200,000. Partner level hires go to $225,000 and beyond, with origination and bonus part of that conversation.
Where you sit within each band depends partly on which office you choose: Northern Virginia pays toward the top. It’s hybrid with flexible schedules, plus 401(k) profit sharing, medical, dental, vision, life and AD&D, short and long term disability, medical and dependent care FSAs and holiday pay.
The work
Medical malpractice defense, where the case is often won or lost on the experts.
Files you run yourself, from the complaint through to verdict or settlement.
A firm that has done nothing but defense work for decades.
Clients that range from household name corporations to individuals.
Why the seat exists
They add attorneys when the work is already there. Virginia is where they’re adding.
Offices across several states plus DC, so the Virginia team has a national bench behind it.
You’ll need
A JD and an active Virginia license.
Medical malpractice defense experience. Three years gets you in the door. Fifteen gets you a different conversation.
A book of business helps at partner level. Ask me whether it’s essential for your situation.
