Position Overview
A well-established defense litigation firm is seeking an experienced Medical Malpractice Defense/Insurance Defense Paralegal to join its growing team. This role is ideal for a highly organized and proactive paralegal with strong insurance defense and medical malpractice experience who is comfortable handling cases from pre-suit through litigation.
The firm values versatile paralegals who can support attorneys across a variety of matters rather than being assigned to a single practice group. The ideal candidate will have at least 3+ years of relevant experience , with a strong preference for candidates who have medical malpractice defense experience, particularly pre-suit exposure.
Key Responsibilities
Assist attorneys with all phases of insurance defense and medical malpractice matters
Obtain, review, and organize medical records
Prepare detailed medical chronologies and case summaries
Coordinate and communicate with expert witnesses
Research, identify, retain, and manage medical and other experts
Assist with mediation and deposition preparation
Draft and respond to discovery requests
Manage case files and maintain accurate litigation documentation
Prepare suit reports and status reports as required by insurance carriers
Track and record time in compliance with insurance carrier billing guidelines
Coordinate case deadlines and litigation calendars
Support attorneys throughout the litigation lifecycle, including trial preparation when necessary
Qualifications
3+ years of insurance defense and/or medical malpractice defense paralegal experience
Strong understanding of civil litigation procedures
Medical malpractice defense experience strongly preferred
Experience with medical malpractice pre-suit matters highly preferred
Candidates with litigation-only medical malpractice experience are encouraged to apply; pre-suit training can be provided
Experience requesting and analyzing medical records
Ability to prepare medical chronologies and case summaries
Experience working with expert witnesses and consultants
Strong discovery, deposition, and mediation support experience
Familiarity with insurance carrier reporting requirements and billing guidelines preferred
Excellent organizational, communication, and multitasking skills
Technology
Experience with PracticeMaster or similar case management/document management systems preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal case management software
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive salary ranging from $74,000 - $84,000+ , depending on experience
Eligible for 1-2 discretionary bonuses annually
In office schedule at their Tampa, FL location
