Medical Office AssistantPay Rate: $18 per hour - $22 per hour Shift Hours: 8:00AM - 4:00PMSummaryThe Medical Office Assistant offers clinical and medical office support to physicians and surgeons. Assists in patient care and administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care.ResponsibilitiesAssist in patient care responsibilities such as performing venipuncture and/or EKGs, checking schedules, and organizing patient flow.Accompany patients to exam/procedure room, assist patients with walking, transferring, dressing, and collect/process specimens and point of care testing.Assist physicians with various procedures, take vital signs, relay instructions to patients and/or families, answer calls, and provide pertinent information.Fulfill clerical responsibilities including sending/receiving patient medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.Manage charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately using the electronic medical record (EMR) system or manually as necessary.Enter orders into the EMR system or prepare prescription refill requests on behalf of the physician for review and approval.Inventory, order, or restock medical supplies as applicable.Provide setup of examination room and instruments in accordance with proper sterilization techniques.Maintain logging system for refrigeration of medications, point of care testing, sterilization process, crash cart, etc.Check expiration dates on all medications and medical supplies, disposing appropriately per institution policy.Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; comply with legal regulations.Comply with established personal protective equipment requirements for protection against exposure to hazardous substances.Assist in maintaining medical charts and may schedule surgeries/procedures or work with Surgical Coordinator.May perform appointment scheduling, registration, and update patient demographic and insurance information.May verify and update insurance information and perform pre-certification for procedures as necessary.Perform other duties as assigned.RequirementsMinimum 3 years of experience working as a medical assistant.Certification as a Medical Assistant from an approved school.Basic proficiency in MS Office Suite.Preferred SkillsSome relevant medical office/phlebotomy experience is desirable.Ability to communicate effectively with multicultural patients and staff.
