We are seeking an experienced Medical Technologist / Medical Laboratory Scientist / Clinical Laboratory Scientist (MT/MLS/CLS) for a long-term contract opportunity at the Central Alabama VA Medical Center in Montgomery, Alabama.
Location: Montgomery, ALFacility: Central Alabama VA Medical Center.
Specialty: Clinical Laboratory Scientist / Medical Technologist.
Shift: Days | 7:00 AM–3:00 PMPay Rate: $55–$60/hour.
Assignment: Through September 26, 2030.
Position Overview:
The Medical Technologist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist will perform generalist clinical laboratory testing and support accurate and timely reporting of laboratory results. The position requires broad competency across key laboratory disciplines, strong instrumentation skills, and knowledge of laboratory quality-control and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform generalist laboratory testing in Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Blood Bank, Immunology, and Urinalysis.
Perform Microbiology testing when applicable.
Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments.
Ensure accurate and timely reporting of laboratory results.
Identify critical values and promptly notify appropriate healthcare providers.
Perform and document quality-control procedures.
Participate in instrument calibration and proficiency testing.
Maintain required laboratory documentation.
Support compliance with applicable Joint Commission, CAP, and AABB standards.
Prioritize workload effectively to maintain timely testing and laboratory operations.
Collaborate with laboratory and healthcare team members to maintain continuous coverage.
Work rotating weekends and multiple shifts as required by the facility.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum 1 year of experience as a generalist Medical Technologist/MLS/CLS.
Generalist competency in Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Blood Bank, Immunology, and Urinalysis.
Current MT, MLS, or CLS board certification through ASCP or AMT – Required.
Bachelor's degree in a relevant science field – Required.
Completion of a clinical practice program.
Experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting laboratory instrumentation.
Experience with quality control, calibration, proficiency testing, and regulatory documentation.
Experience recognizing and communicating critical laboratory values
Ability to prioritize workload and work effectively as part of a laboratory team.
Microbiology experience preferred.
Required Documentation:
Candidates should be prepared to provide applicable documentation, including:
Resume | License | ASCP/AMT Certification | BLS | ACLS | OIG.
Schedule:
Day Shift: 7:00 AM–3:00 PM.
Candidates should be able to accommodate rotating weekends and other shifts as required for laboratory coverage.
Pay:
$55–$60 per hour.
Final pay within the posted range will be based on experience, qualifications, certifications, and assignment requirements.
