Mental Health Specialist III - Part Time
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a part-time Mental Health Specialist III for the Child & Adolescent Services – Partial Hospitalization within Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care. The primary purpose of the Partial Hospital Mental Health Specialist III position is to provide daily direct care services to the program's consumers as directed by the unit supervisor. Demonstrates competence in recognizing the unique needs and behaviors of children with emotional and/or developmental needs. Provides appropriate assistance and renders service in accordance with UBHC policies and procedure in a culturally competent and Person Centered manner. Actively participates in crisis interventions.
Among the key duties of this position are the following: Engages consumer/patient in appropriate intervention based on service plan and supervisory directions. Interacts and communicates with individuals served in a wellness and recovery focused manner. Completes all required documentation within prescribed time frames as monitored by tracking reports. Assists in facilitating concrete needs for students and parents and facilitates referral on an ongoing basis. Documents interventions, and interactions with parents and students in accordance with unit policies. Engages with students and families by supporting children and families' community based activities, as demonstrated by attending social and recreational functions.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience - Three (3) years of relevant full-time paid experience in the mental health field or one (1) year of full-time paid experience (part time and/or per diem experience may be substituted for the full-time equivalent) in a mental health field along with at least two (2) years of college majoring in a relevant mental health, social or human services field, including twenty-four (24) verified credits in a relevant mental health, social or human services field, such as psychology, social work, counseling or three (3) years of college majoring in a relevant mental health, social or human services field, including thirty-six (36) verified credits in a relevant mental health, social or human services field, such as psychology, social work, counseling.
Certifications/Licenses - Must have valid driver's license and maintain a safe driving record. Applicants possessing a degree in Social Work must have an active New Jersey certification/licensure as required by the State Board of Social Work.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Preferred Qualifications - Bilingual skills (English/Spanish).
Physical Demands and Work Environment - PHYSICALDEMANDS: Must be able to lift up to seventy (70) pounds multiple times a day. Requires bending, lifting, sitting. Time spent in a school environment. Some travel to client homes and community agencies. WORKENVIRONMENT: Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic). Program and classroom setting is active and sometimes noisy. Varied settings in home. Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic). Subject to unpredictable situations, patient crisis, both medical and psychiatric. Occasionally exposed to consumers exhibiting assaultive behaviors.
