Job description
Do you want to make a lasting difference in a young person's life?
Students in San Francisco public schools need mentors as much as academic support — someone who shows up consistently and reminds them: "You matter." Through the San Francisco Education Fund's Mentoring Program, you can be that someone.
Why Mentor? Students thrive when they know an adult genuinely cares. Mentors help build confidence, offer a safe space, and stay connected during a critical stage of development. Whether it's lunch, before school, or after class, one hour a week can anchor a student's whole week. Watch our volunteer testimonial.
Who We're Looking For:
Mentors 18+, any background, no experience necessary
Consistency, empathy, and a sincere desire to support a student
Bilingual mentors — especially Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Tagalog, Vietnamese, or Arabic speakers — are in high demand.
Time Commitment:
✔️ 1 hour/week, for one school year (or more!)
✔️ Before school, lunch, or after school, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.
Training Required: Free mentor training, plus an online Mandated Reporter Training.
Upcoming In-Person Trainings:
Monday, September 21st, 5:30–8:30 p.m.
Thursday, October 8th, 5:30–8:30 p.m.
Tuesday, November 3rd, 5:30–8:30 p.m.
