Job description
Higher Achievement closes the opportunity gap during the pivotal middle school years. By leveraging the power of communities, Higher Achievement’s proven model provides a rigorous afterschool learning environment, caring role models, and a culture of high expectations, resulting in college-bound scholars with the character, confidence, and skills to succeed.
We provide academic enrichment through a holistic approach grounded in social justice principles. Our afterschool program for 5th-8th grade scholars combines small-group, high-impact tutoring with social-emotional skill building, culminating in placement in college preparatory high schools.
Our incredible High School Readiness Mentors work with a small group of 5th-8th scholars as they gain awareness of high school, college, and career options. You will support them in taking steps to access those options through writing, reading, and critical thinking activities. No experience needed! Training, lesson plans, and activities will be provided. Mentors are needed once per week from approximately 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Our program is based in several schools in the city:
Highlandtown Elementary-Middle School (231 S. Eaton Street Baltimore, MD 21224), Mt Royal Elementary Middle School (121 McMechen St, Baltimore, MD 21217) and Lakelake Elementary Middle.
