Job description

For over 10 years, Minds Matter DC has connected driven and determined students from low-income families with the people, preparation, and possibilities to succeed in college, create their future, and change the world. Volunteer with Minds Matter DC and help low-income students achieve their college dreams.

Mentor Overview:

Mentors guide, challenge, and celebrate students through their three years in the program.

Mentors act as caring adults in their students' lives. They provide consistent support while sharing insight from their journey to college and beyond.

Minds Matter utilizes a 2:1 mentor-student model. Mentors work with their students alongside another adult mentor to form a triad. Your Co-Mentor is your partner and additional support for your student. When you meet with your triad, you will follow a curriculum that provides structure and will help you guide your student at each step of their journey.

Time Commitment:

Out-of-Session Approximately 2 hours of orientation and training each year.

In Session Each academic year contains about 25 sessions from September to May.

Sessions are 2 hours on Saturdays (during the school year) from 12:00pm - 2:00pm.

There are no sessions over major holidays or school breaks.

Volunteers are required to attend 80% of the sessions.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Graduate of a four-year college or university in the US

Team-oriented, responsive, active listener who can serve as a role model for young people

Able to pass a background check

Able to commit to three academic years

Available on Saturdays (during the school year)
