Excavator Position
Sarasota County Government is seeking an Excavator for the Public Works department. The position is full-time with a salary of $17.60 hourly. The location is 1001 Sarasota Center Boulevard, Sarasota, FL 34240.
The job involves the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment used in the construction, maintenance, and repair of utility pipeline, storm conveyance system, and appurtenances. Responsibilities include transporting, operating, and maintaining heavy equipment, vehicles, and machines such as backhoes, walking excavators, front-end loaders, dump trucks, boom trucks, sewer vacuuming and flushing trucks and equipment, sewer TV trucks, water transport, delivery trucks, boring machines, tapping machines, and other related equipment and machines used in the construction, maintenance, and repair of water distribution, wastewater collection, and storm water conveyance systems and their appurtenances.
Additional duties include performing manual labor tasks related to water distribution, wastewater collection, and storm water conveyance system maintenance and repair as required, roadway and right-of-way restoration relating to completed utility maintenance and repairs, maintaining equipment and vehicles as assigned, completing and submitting work orders relating to all work performed in a professional and timely fashion, and responding to emergency situations as required.
Work hours are 40 hours per week from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Minimum qualifications include at least two years of experience in the operation and maintenance of one or more pieces of the equipment described herein, possession of a valid Florida Driver's License, and the ability to obtain a Class "A" CDL License prior to appointment. Preferred qualifications include one year or more experience operating a MENZI Muck walk excavator.
Job competencies include knowledge of current industry standards for the safe operation of heavy equipment, vehicles, and specialized tools used in the maintenance and repair of water, wastewater, and stormwater utility systems and their appurtenances, the ability to transport, operate, and maintain various types of heavy equipment and vehicles, and the ability to understand and follow oral/written instructions.
Physical demands include occasionally lifting and/or moving more than 50 pounds. This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening.
