Microbiologist I
Location: North Chicago, IL
Pay Rate: $24-$26/hour
Duration: 1 year
Schedule: 1st Shift, Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-3:30 PM
Start Date: 10/26/2026
Work Arrangement: 100% Onsite
Interview Process: 2 rounds - Virtual Teams, followed by onsite panel
Job Description
Collect environmental and utility samples for microbiological and chemical testing.
Perform microbiological testing of water and swab samples in a manufacturing laboratory environment.
Execute analytical and microbial test methods according to established procedures and GMP requirements.
Troubleshoot analytical techniques and laboratory instrument issues.
Interpret experimental and analytical data against product and material specifications.
Investigate laboratory exceptions and determine potential root causes using appropriate experimental approaches.
Prepare exception documentation in accordance with procedural requirements.
Support product and material release through accurate generation and review of laboratory data.
Perform multiple laboratory techniques across assigned functional areas according to training qualifications.
Maintain required laboratory training and certifications.
Follow applicable GMP, laboratory, safety, and procedural requirements.
Education Bachelor's degree in Biology or a related scientific discipline from an accredited institution.
Associate's degree with at least 2 years of laboratory experience may be considered.
High School Diploma with at least 5 years of directly related laboratory experience may be considered.
Required Skills Microbiological testing of water and environmental/swab samples.
Environmental monitoring and utility sampling.
Microbiology laboratory techniques.
Analytical and microbial test methods.
GMP and regulated manufacturing laboratory experience.
Laboratory instrumentation troubleshooting.
Experimental data interpretation against specifications.
Laboratory exception/deviation investigation and root-cause analysis.
Product/material release testing and supporting documentation.
Ability to perform multiple laboratory techniques within a training matrix.
Experience working in manufacturing and laboratory environments.
Ability to lift materials up to 25 lbs.
Preferred Skills Pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical manufacturing laboratory experience.
Experience with environmental monitoring programs.
Experience supporting product/material release testing.
Experience with microbiological and chemical testing of manufacturing utilities.
Experience investigating laboratory exceptions and identifying root causes.
Experience working across multiple laboratory functional areas.
