Job description

MIG Welder Night ShiftAt North Shore Steel and our affiliated companies, we produce large-diameter pipe and structural products that require precision welding to meet demanding industry standards.Our girth seam welders play a critical role in final weld integrity, work that directly impacts quality, safety, and performance in the field.If you're a Sub Arc welder who understands full-circumference welds, tie-ins, and maintaining consistency through rotation, this is where your skillset stands out.As a MIG Welder, you will perform production welding using GMAW (MIG) processes on steel components and assemblies. This role requires experience welding in 2G and 3G positions on long seams and girth seams, with a strong focus on consistency and weld integrity.You will be responsible for producing high-quality, repeatable welds in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while following established procedures. The ideal candidate must be able to read and interpret Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) to ensure all welds meet required codes and quality standards.What You'll Be Responsible For:Perform MIG (GMAW) welding on steel components, including long seams and girth seamsWeld in 2G and 3G positions while maintaining consistent quality and penetrationSet up and adjust welding equipment based on material type, thickness, and WPS requirementsRead and interpret Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), blueprints, and weld symbolsMaintain consistent weld appearance and quality across high-volume production runsPerform visual inspection of welds to ensure compliance with quality standardsComplete minor grinding, cleanup, and weld finishing as requiredMaintain welding equipment in safe and proper working conditionFollow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work areaMeet production targets without compromising qualityWhat It Takes to Be Successful:Prior experience with MIG (GMAW) welding in a production environmentAbility to maintain consistent weld quality over repetitive workBasic understanding of weld settings (voltage, wire speed, gas flow)Ability to read basic blueprints or weld symbolsStrong attention to detail and qualityDependable and able to maintain steady performance throughout shiftCommitment to working safely in an industrial environmentPreferred Experience:Experience welding structural steel or heavy gauge materialsFamiliarity with FCAW or other welding processesExperience working in high-volume manufacturing environmentsPhysical Requirements:Ability to lift up to 50 lbs independently on a routine basis and handle materials safely as part of daily job duties.Ability to stand for extended periods and maintain safe body positioning while performing tasks and moving through the work area, including walking on concrete floors and uneven surfaces.Frequent squatting, bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting, requiring full-body mobility, balance, and upper- and lower-body strength to perform work safely.Manual agility to operate tools safely and effectively, with regular use of arms, shoulders, and back for lifting, reaching, and positioning tasks.Ability to work safely in a warehouse environment with exposure to noise, dust, moving equipment, and varying temperatures.Maintain adequate visual and auditory acuity to safely perform assigned tasks, including but not limited to: identifying potential hazards, reading and/or recording measurements, inspecting materials, and responding promptly to verbal instructions, alarms or hand signals in the work environmentPre-Employment Requirements:Criminal background check: reviewed in accordance with job duties, the nature and gravity of any convictions, and the time elapsed since the offense or sentence completion.Pre-hire drug screening: candidates must pass a drug screen to be eligible for hire.Physical assessment: required for all Production and Distribution positions, conducted by a company-designated physician at no cost to the candidate.Participation in each step of the pre-employment process is required.
