DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operates pick-up trucks, dump trucks, and panel trucks, or other vehicles with a rated capacity of 26,001 pounds including equipment such as rubbish compactor trucks, road sweepers, snow loaders, leaf loaders, snow fighters, sidewalk rollers, and road flashers.
Loads and unloads trucks; picks up and hauls materials; plows and sands highways; greases, oils and cleans equipment; changes tires, and performs minor maintenance.
Also performs manual labor tasks when not working as a Motor Equipment Operator.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a current and valid Commercial Driver's License Classification B
Must possess one year driving experience
Must present a valid Department of Transportation medical certificate.
Must possess a satisfactory driving record
Candidates must also provide, upon interview, a copy of their unattested driving record, obtainable at the RMV and dated within the previous six months
Candidates may need to register with the FMCSA Commercial Driver's License Drug and Alcohol
Clearinghouse
All candidates will participate in an on-road driving assessment as part of the interview process.
Internal applicants must have permanent civil service status.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
All labor positions, skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled in the Cambridge Department of Public Works require a combination of: Lifting between 25-100 pounds, proper bending, squatting, stretching, pushing, climbing, dragging, and pulling.

Other Information:
Exposure to all weather conditions. Work in a moderate to high noise level environment caused by sound of machinery or powered equipment being used. Occasional odor may occur during the course of work. Required to adhere to all safety rules and regulations as well as dress code policies. Perform other related duties as assigned.

The salary range listed in this job posting reflects the full range for this position's pay grade (Steps 1-10). New employees joining the organization are hired within the hiring range, Steps 1 through 5, with placement at the midpoint reserved for the most qualified candidates. Starting placement is based on directly related education and experience relative to the minimum qualifications of the position, required licenses or certifications, internal equity with current employees, and relevant labor market factors. Employees progress through the 10 steps over time through the City's established step and pay progression policies.
This compensation philosophy applies to non-union positions. For union positions, please refer to the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
