Summary

About the Position: Sierra Army Depot is located in Herlong CA, a rural town in Northern California. Herlong is approximately 60 miles north of Reno, NV, and 35 miles south of Susanville, CA. The depot serves as an Army Expeditionary Logistical Support Center. Employees work Mon-Thurs, hrs. Youth Facilities and childcare available. Mass transportation is available at minimal cost. Surrounding area boasts a full range of outdoor sports/recreation activities.

Duties

Help

Operate material handling equipment to stack shipping containers.

Secure vehicle cargo to prevent product damage.

Operate truck tractors to transport material within the depot.

Inspect equipment for maintenance reports.

Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.

This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

This is a Term position scheduled to last 2 years. A term position may be extended to a maximum of eight years depending upon the needs of management.

This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.

This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.

The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess a valid state Commercial Driver's License (CDL) certification requirements outlined in AMC-R (Army Materials Command Regulation) 350-4.

The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess a valid state Commercial Driver's License (CDL) permit.

Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. This announcement is a Direct Hire solicitation. Category rating, veteran's preference, and traditional rating and ranking of applicants do NOT apply for this vacancy.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element) : Ability to do the work of a(n) Motor Vehicle Operator ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common which includes navigating tractor-trailers through tight uneven spaces to prevent vehicle damage and ensure site safety, utilizing advanced steering techniques to prevent trailer jackknifing, and navigating multi-fuel vehicles across off-road installation environments to deliver material. I can operate truck tractors to transport general material within the depot, and secure vehicle cargo to prevent product damage during transit,. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT : Physical effort is required to turn the larger and heavier type vehicle, in addition to the smaller vehicles, and to operate the controls. Frequent handling of objects weighing 40 pounds while loading or unloading; making couplings between vehicles such as using heavy chains, bars, hooks, etc., which must be lifted and properly secured. Requires a physical.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Vehicles are operated in all types of traffic and weather on depot and public roads. The operator is exposed to the danger of serious accidents. The operator may be exposed to hazardous materials

Additional information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest. Continued employment requires written certification that it advances the public interest.

Direct Deposit of Pay is required.

Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
