Summary

About the Position: Red River Army Depot (RRAD) is located in northeast Texas, 19 miles west of Texarkana and approximately 170 miles northeast of Dallas. RRAD is near the corners of 4 states - Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas. The depot's enormous maintenance mission includes the repair, rebuild, overhaul and conversion of tactical wheeled vehicles. Duties

Help

Operate trucks to transport a variety of cargo such as heavy industrial equipment, combat tactical vehicles, and tanks.

Complete daily trip tickets in accordance with Motor Vehicle Operator policies and procedures.

Check weight limitations of vehicles operated in accordance to state law regulations.

Determine best vehicle to use to transport cargo to its destination.

Ensure cargo is properly distributed to prevent shifting while in transit.

Apply the dual breaking system for combination vehicles to prevent jackknifing.

Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

This position is subject to Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel up to 10%.

This position requires to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance for access to Depot Production Computer System.

This position requires frequent lifting and carrying of items weighing over 100 pounds.

This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.

This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

This position requires incumbent to have the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.

This position require the incumbent to have a valid state Commercial Driver's License (CDL) prior to entrance on duty, with the ability to obtain and maintain a S or P Endorsement with 30 days of employment.

This position requires a valid Forklift Operator License.

This is a Term position scheduled to last 1 year and 1 day. A term position may be extended to a maximum of eight years depending upon the needs of management.

Term employment is subject to a one year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.

Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a temporary or Term appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.

Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Motor Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision to include 1) checking weight limitations of vehicles operated in accordance to state law regulations; 2) determining best vehicle to use to transport cargo to its destination; and 3) performing maintenance checks to ensure vehicles are in proper working order. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order)

Physical Effort: Exert moderate to heavy physical effort in climbing on tractors to hook up service lines, and climbing on trailers to load and tie down cargo. Occasionally heavy lifting is required such as handling cans and up to 100 pounds. Frequently required to bend, reach, and work in awkward positions. Work on top of equipment at heights up to 18 feet above ground.

Working Conditions: Operate vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on interstate highway and exposed to the danger of serious accidents. May drive in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated road and interchange systems.

Education

This job does not have an education qualification requirement.

Additional information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.

This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest. In making this determination, the agency may consider your performance and conduct; agency needs and interests; whether your continued employment supports organizational or Government goals; and whether it promotes the efficiency of the Federal service. Continued employment requires written certification that it advances the public interest.

Direct deposit of pay is required.

This is a(n) 24 - Transportation and Distribution Management Career Program position aligned under the Logistics Career Management Directorate.
