Job description

Multi-Region Infant & Early Childhood Mental Health (IECMH) Consultant

Oregon Infant Mental Health Association (ORIMHA)

Oregon (statewide travel required) | Full-Time | Independent Contractor

The Opportunity

The earliest relationships shape lifelong well-being — and the Oregon Infant Mental Health Association (ORIMHA) exists to support the professionals who support infants, toddlers, and families across Oregon.

We're seeking a Multi-Region IECMH Consultant to expand access to consultation statewide and provide support where regional needs arise. This is a chance to make a meaningful, statewide impact by strengthening the capacity of early childhood educators and supporting the social-emotional well-being of Oregon's youngest children and their families.

About ORIMHA

ORIMHA is a statewide nonprofit dedicated to supporting the emotional health and well-being of Oregon's infants, toddlers, and their families. Through Endorsement, Reflective Supervision, training, and collaboration, we build a connected, skilled workforce grounded in infant mental health principles, equity, relationships, and long-term impact.

About the Role

You'll provide Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation across multiple areas of Oregon, filling gaps in regional consultant availability and expanding capacity when additional support is needed. You'll partner with early childhood educators — and, when appropriate, families — to strengthen adults' capacity to support children's healthy social-emotional development. The role also includes piloting telehealth and video-based consultation when in-person services aren't timely or when virtual coaching can expand access.

You'll work as part of the ORIMHA team under the supervision of the Executive Director, with support from the Operations Director. Regular statewide travel is required, with up to approximately 1,000 miles per month anticipated.

What You'll Do

Provide relationship-based, preventive consultation supporting infants' and young children's mental health and social-emotional development

Partner with early childhood educators to address developmental and relational concerns, and develop practical intervention strategies together

Help support children who may be at risk of suspension or expulsion from early learning and childcare settings

Connect educators and families with appropriate regional resources and services

Provide individual and group training on topics such as social-emotional wellness, early childhood development, trauma-informed care, attachment, and self-care

Provide consultation via telehealth/video conferencing when appropriate

Build understanding of the racial, cultural, linguistic, historical, and regional characteristics of the communities served

Participate in reflective supervision and the reflective process

Maintain required documentation and meet program/data requirements

Collaborate with other IECMH Consultants and partner organizations

What You Bring

Education

Master's degree in mental health, early childhood education/development, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language pathology, or a related discipline

If your master's is outside a mental health-related discipline, participation in mental health in-service training is preferred

Credential

Endorsed as a Family Specialist or Mental Health Specialist (IMH-E® or ECMH-E®), or you meet the criteria for one of these Endorsement categories

Endorsed Reflective Supervisor add-on preferred

Experience

Minimum two years of experience as an IECMH Consultant in early education settings

Experience providing IECMH consultation using distance technology preferred

Applicants based in central Oregon are preferred

Skills

Humility, empathy, curiosity, and flexibility, along with strong written and verbal communication skills. You're comfortable building professional relationships, engaging families, collaborating across consultants and organizations, working across multiple levels of an early childhood system, using distance technology, traveling throughout Oregon, and engaging thoughtfully in conversations about racism, bias, and equity.

Contract Details

Full-time independent contractor role, ~40 hours/week

$52-$57/hour

Regular statewide travel required (up to ~1,000 miles/month)

Anticipated contract term through June 2028

As an independent contractor role, this position is not eligible for ORIMHA employee benefits (medical/dental, retirement, paid time off); contractors must maintain insurance coverage required under the independent contractor agreement

Final candidates will be required to complete a background check

Our Commitment to Equity & Inclusion

ORIMHA is committed to equity, inclusion, and belonging in both our work and our hiring practices. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences and recognize the value of lived experience in strengthening our work. We strive to create a workplace where all individuals feel respected, supported, and able to contribute fully.

How to Apply

If you're passionate about infant and early childhood mental health and want to help strengthen the systems and relationships supporting Oregon's youngest children, we encourage you to apply.
