Position Highlights
nnnLevel III NICU providing advanced neonatal critical care in an inpatient setting.
n
nn24-hour shift schedule offering a condensed work schedule and excellent work-life balance.
n
nnWork alongside experienced Neonatologists and Neonatal NPs in a collaborative, team-based environment.
n
nnManage approximately 16 patients per shift with support from RNs, Social Workers, and additional APPs.
n
nnBroad scope of practice including:
n
nnHigh-risk deliveries and neonatal resuscitation
n
nnHospital admissions and inpatient rounding
n
nnCritical care procedures (intubations, lumbar punctures, arterial/umbilical line placement, chest tubes, bladder taps)
n
nnVentilator management
n
nnCooling therapies (body/head cooling)
n
nniNO therapy
n
nnECMO participation under neonatologist supervision
n
nnNew graduates are encouraged to apply with a structured 12-18 month mentorship and onboarding program led by Dr. Amy Brunt and the Neonatology team.
n
nnIndividual patient management with your own in-basket responsibilities.
n
nnNo travel or satellite clinic responsibilities-practice exclusively at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - College Station.

nnStrong interdisciplinary support including dedicated nursing and social work teams.
n

nJob Summary
nThe NP Intensivist Medicine is a licensed, certified, non-physician healthcare provider. They provide direct patient care and have prescriptive authority. They are credentialed, privileged, and billed as independent providers by Medicare and Medicaid. The Advanced Practice Provider offers medical care based on the supervising physician's scope of practice. Intensivist Medicine providers work in critical care settings. They manage patients by rounding, performing procedures, and handling hospital admissions and discharges.
nEssential Functions of the Role
nnnAssesses the physical and mental condition of patients by performing and obtaining comprehensive or problem-focused physical examinations and medical histories.
n
nnOrders, collects, interprets, and evaluates laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs.
n
nnPrescribes or recommends medical drug therapies or related treatments. Performs procedures following approved protocols with attention to efficacy, safety, and cost. Recommends interventions to change behavior linked to health risks.
n
nnFormulates and implements comprehensive patient treatment plans based on assessments, evidence-based medicine, and standards of care. Collaborates with physicians and team members when appropriate. Evaluates patient's response to health care and the effectiveness of care.
n
nnCounsels patients and families about medical processes, illness management, medication, nutrition, and health promotion. Counsels patients about drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with food supplements, over-the-counter medications, and herbal remedies.
n
nnMaintains appropriate records detailing the patient's treatment plans and outcomes. Initiates timely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope of practice or expertise.
n
nnProvides consultation level services for conditions/problems related to the Provider's specialty and training.
n
nnPerforms invasive procedures specific to scope of practice (and knowledge of the provider) as delegated by supervising Physician.
n
nnMay conduct hospital rounds, assist with admissions and discharges, and provide on-call support.
n
n nKey Success Factors
nnnKnowledge of information and techniques is needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.
n
nnKnowledge of practices, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions

nnBasic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer
