Job description
We are seeking a Network Engineer / IPv6 Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This role will serve as the technical lead for IPv6 implementation, network modernization, and enterprise architecture initiatives while providing senior-level engineering expertise across complex network environments.
Responsibilities
Lead the design, implementation, and expansion of IPv6 capabilities across the enterprise environment.
Provide network architecture, engineering, and operational support for HUD.
Serve as a senior technical advisor for network strategy, design reviews, risk assessments, and remediation planning.
Design, implement, and troubleshoot large-scale enterprise IP networks.
Support network modernization, migration, and transformation initiatives.
Architect and implement Zero Trust network solutions.
Lead complex troubleshooting efforts and coordinate resolution across multiple teams.
Mentor engineering staff and provide technical leadership.
Create and maintain network architecture documentation, diagrams, implementation plans, and technical standards.
Conduct gap analyses, root cause investigations, and technical risk assessments.
Present recommendations and technical updates to leadership and key stakeholders.
Required Skills
10+ years of experience in network engineering, network architecture, or telecommunications infrastructure.
5+ years of hands-on IPv6 experience, including architecture, routing, migration, implementation, and troubleshooting.
Experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise-scale IP networks.
Strong knowledge of routing and switching technologies including BGP, OSPF/OSPFv3, EIGRP, IS-IS, IPv4, and IPv6.
Experience with DNS, DHCP/DHCPv6, ICMP/ICMPv6, TCP/IP, and SNMP.
Experience with Cisco, F5, and CrowdStrike technologies.
Knowledge of network security technologies, firewalls, segmentation, access control, and monitoring solutions.
Experience architecting and implementing Zero Trust solutions.
Strong technical documentation, communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
Experience developing HLDs, LLDs, network diagrams, implementation plans, and technical assessments.
Experience supporting large-scale network modernization or migration efforts.
Preferred Skills
Experience supporting Federal Government network environments and IPv6 initiatives.
Experience developing IPv6 migration strategies and IPv6-only environments.
Cloud networking experience with AWS and/or Microsoft Azure.
Experience integrating IPv6 with firewalls, load balancers, DNS/DHCP, identity management, and security platforms.
Experience with network resiliency, disaster recovery, automation, and technology refresh initiatives.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, Telecommunications, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
Relevant certifications such as CCIE, CCNP, JNCIP, JNCIE, Azure Network Engineer, AWS Advanced Networking, CISSP, Security+, or IPv6 certifications.
