Registered Nurse - Telemetry 2 (Tele2) | Mercy St. Louis

Overview

Join Mercy St. Louis on our Telemetry Level 2 (Tele2) unit, a fast-paced, high-acuity environment designed for nurses who enjoy critical thinking and dynamic patient care. Tele2 provides care at an acuity level between stepdown and general med-tele, offering an excellent opportunity to build advanced clinical skills.

Although smaller in size, this unit mirrors the patient complexity and clinical expectations of our MPCU/CPCU units, making it ideal for nurses seeking stepdown-level experience in a more close-knit setting. The unit is also now expanded from 18 beds to 24.

Position Details:

What Sets Tele2 Apart

* Higher acuity than traditional Med Tele units

* Equivalent in clinical complexity to MPCU/CPCU, but in a smaller, more intimate unit setting

* Strong exposure to cardiac and respiratory conditions requiring close monitoring

* Excellent steppingstone for nurses interested in stepdown or critical care pathways

Patient Population

You will care for adult patients (18-100 years) with a variety of acute conditions, including:

* Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)

* Chest pain (pre-procedural monitoring prior to surgery/intervention)

* Patients requiring high oxygen support

* Cardiac and respiratory conditions requiring continuous telemetry

* Overflow from SPCU (surgical cardiac patients)

Admission Sources

* Primarily Emergency Department admissions

* Some direct admits (not requiring ICU level care)

* Occasional post-operative admissions

Patient Flow

* Short stay unit with rapid turnover

* Approximately:

* 50% discharge to home or skilled facility

* 50% may transfer to higher or specialized levels of care if needed

Key Responsibilities

* Provide high-quality, patient-centered care in a telemetry setting

* Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms and clinical changes

* Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care plans

* Manage patients with moderate to high acuity needs

* Educate patients and families on treatment plans and discharge instructions

Ideal Candidate

* Thrives in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment

* Strong critical thinking and prioritization skills

* Passion for cardiac and complex medical patient care

* Interested in advancing toward stepdown or critical care nursing

Why Mercy - Tele2

* Exposure to stepdown-level acuity without ICU setting pressure

* Supportive leadership with a new, engaged nurse manager

* Opportunity to build advanced telemetry and cardiac care skills

* Smaller unit fosters strong teamwork and collaboration

Qualifications:

* Education: Graduated from a school of nursing (Associate's Degree, Diploma, or BSN).

* Licensure: Is personally responsible for obtaining, and maintaining, a current RN license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure in which nursing duties are performed and must meet all state board of nursing requirements.

* Certifications: Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association or successful completion of course within 30 days of hire.
