Job description
Quality TechnicianThe Quality Technician is responsible for ensuring products meet SIMONA America Industries' quality standards through inspection, testing, documentation, and process verification. This position will work to identify quality concerns, investigate nonconforming material, support continuous improvement initiatives, and maintain accurate quality records.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProduction Quality VerificationPerform routine quality inspections on all operating sheet extrusion lines throughout each shift.Verify products meet customer specifications and internal quality standards.Conduct in-process inspections and finished product evaluations.Perform dimensional, visual, and physical property inspections.Notify operators, supervisors, and production leadership of quality concerns requiring immediate attention.Document inspection results accurately.Laboratory TestingPerform laboratory testing in accordance with established procedures, including but not limited to: density, moisture content, color evaluation using spectrophotometer, thickness verification, visual inspections, and additional product-specific testing as required.Maintain testing equipment and ensure calibration requirements are followed.Weld Rod QualityPerform inspections of weld rod products.Complete required testing and documentation.Organize laboratory samples and retain records.Nonconforming Material (NCF)Assist with the identification and investigation of nonconforming material by reviewing production documentation, verifying process sheets, assisting with material traceability, working with Materials to review raw material consumption, reviewing blender (Maguire) settings and records, inspecting inventory with Shipping as required, and supporting disposition of nonconforming product.Customer Complaint SupportAssist in investigations of customer complaints.Review production records and inspection reports.Gather samples and supporting documentation.Assist with root cause investigations.Participate in corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).Documentation & Record ReviewReview production documentation for completeness and accuracy, including production packets, quality inspection reports, process sheets, test reports, lot traceability documentation, and ensure required documentation is complete before closing production orders.Maintain electronic and paper quality records.SAP & System MaintenanceUpdate production quantities as necessary within SAP.Maintain process sheet database.Verify production records match manufacturing output.Assist with quality-related data entry and reporting.First Article Inspection (FAI)Complete First Article Inspection documentation.Verify product specifications.Review customer requirements.Ensure all required approvals are completed prior to production release.Color EvaluationEvaluate color consistency.Perform color matching using laboratory equipment.Investigate color-related quality concerns.Support Production during color adjustments and changeovers.Continuous ImprovementParticipate in continuous improvement initiatives.Assist with root cause analysis.Recommend quality improvements.Support implementation of corrective actions.Assist during internal and external audits.Workplace Organization (6S)Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.Follow all 6S standards.Properly maintain laboratory equipment and work areas.SafetyFollow all company safety policies and procedures.Report unsafe conditions immediately.Wear required PPE.Participate in safety training and initiatives.Required Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or GED required.Associate degree in Quality, Manufacturing Technology, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred.Minimum 2 years of manufacturing or quality experience preferred.Experience in plastics manufacturing is a plus.Basic understanding of quality systems and inspection techniques.Technical SkillsAbility to read and interpret specifications, drawings, and work instructions.Experience using measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, thickness gauges, measuring tapes.Basic understanding of laboratory testing.Experience with Microsoft Office.Experience with SAP or ERP systems preferred.Ability to learn quality software and reporting systems.Work EnvironmentThis position works in a combination of laboratory, manufacturing, and office environments. The employee will routinely use laboratory equipment, powder blending equipment, extrusion equipment, testing instruments, and standard office equipment.Exposure to manufacturing noise, moving machinery, heat, and raw materials should be expected.
