Job description
At Trustward, we believe that mission-driven organizations deserve financial clarity, strategic support, and the freedom to focus fully on their impact. Based in Richmond, Virginia, we partner with nonprofits and mission-driven businesses across the nation to deliver expert accounting, bookkeeping, tax, compliance, and fractional CFO services built specifically for organizations with a purpose beyond profit. Clients choose Trustward for financials that are accurate, audit-ready, and built for growth, and for a culture of service and collaboration. Our FP&A Manager helps clients look forward while keeping the books right. You will still do hands-on accounting, and you will turn that work into budgets, forecasts, and analysis that executive directors and boards can actually use to make decisions. For some clients you will serve as their fractional CFO. Serve as fractional CFO for select clients, owning the financial relationship with the executive director and board, from monthly results through budget approval.
- Work alongside Trustward's fractional CFOs on other client engagements, leading the planning and analysis work that supports their recommendations.
- Perform hands-on accounting for assigned clients, including month-end close, reconciliations, journal entries, and workpapers for financial statements, tax returns, and audit requests.
- Build and manage annual budgets for assigned clients, including organization-wide, program, and grant budgets, with restricted and unrestricted funds tracked separately.
- Develop cash flow forecasts and scenario models to help clients plan for funding changes, program growth, staffing decisions, and reserve targets.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients, presenting results to executive directors, finance committees, and boards in plain language.
- Partner with Trustward's accounting teams so that monthly close, reporting, and planning work fit together and deadlines are met.
- Perform program and grant-level cost analysis, including functional expense allocation and indirect cost analysis, to support pricing, proposals, and strategic decisions.
- Support multi-year financial planning and strategic planning conversations with leadership teams.
- Strong technical accounting skills with the ability to apply them in real-world client situations.
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills, with models that are accurate, well organized, and easy for others to follow.
- Solid grasp of nonprofit accounting, including net asset classifications, grant revenue, and functional expenses.
- Proficient with QuickBooks Online and modern reporting and planning technologies.
- Comfortable owning work end to end, from pulling data through final presentation.
- Collaborative mindset with a willingness to jump in and help wherever needed.
