Description
The Southern Illinois University Simmons Law School seeksapplicants for adjunct faculty at the rank of Assistant Professorof Practice.
This is a term, non-tenure track faculty appointment.Adjunct faculty are hired based on the needs of the law school andapplications are continually evaluated throughout the year, withthe first review beginning on May 4, 2026. Because program needschange quickly, candidates with a completed application on filewill be given full consideration as vacancies open.
Examples of Duties
teaching assigned course(s) in accordance with the approvedcurriculum and academic standards of the law school;
holding scheduled class sessions (in-person, online, or hybrid)and ensure coverage of required instructional minutes;
designing and administering appropriate and requiredassessments (e.g., exams, papers, simulations, or practicalexercises);
evaluating student performance fairly and timely, consistentwith law school grading policies;
providing meaningful feedback to support student learning andbar preparation;
responding to student communications in a timely andprofessional manner and providing them supportive instructionoutside of class meetings;
engaging in other duties as determined by the Associate Deanfor Academic Affairs.
All faculty members are expected to adhere to all University, LawSchool, ABA accreditation, collective bargaining agreement, andother relevant policies and procedures.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications andexperience, while also considering internal equity.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
JD from an ABA approved law school
Licensed member of a state bar in good standing
5 years of legal practice experience. The minimum years ofrequired practice may be waived on account of exceptionalcircumstances, such as outstanding law school performance or anadvanced degree in a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior teaching experience in a law school setting
