Job description

NURSE AIDEAssist the school nurse in the smooth and efficient operation of the school health service office in order to realize that service's maximum positive impact on the educational environment.Educational Qualifications:High school diploma or GEDCertification as Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) or Medical Office Assistant (MOA), or Medical Office Specialist (MOS) preferredCertification in CPR, preferred; Certification must be obtained within 30 days of employmentKnowledge of medical terminologyAt least one year of experience in a health setting preferredAt least one year of experience working with children preferredMust have a valid Texas driver's license and a reliable vehicleMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Administer screening procedures including vision, hearing, blood pressure scoliosis; measure height and weight; perform dental observations; check skin and scalp; retest as necessary.Maintain up to date cumulative health records and emergency procedure records for each student.Provide first aid treatment of all injuries and illnesses.Notify parents or others of accident or illness of student.Acquaint families with the total medical and health resources and services available.Provide supervision for sick and injured students until they are place in the care of their parents.Handle cases of child abuse through proper referrals.Maintain a roster of all student visits to the nurse's office.Assist in the completion and filing of a monthly report of all health services activities.Maintain first aid and CPR skills.Serve the needs of all students at the campus(es) assigned.Be available by phone, email, or video conferencing during regular business hours to confer with district personnel.Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job responsibility unless instructed to work from home by supervisor.Assist in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.Distance Learning and Virtual Instruction Duties and Responsibilities In the event of a school closure in response to a disaster, flood, extreme weather condition, fuel curtailment, epidemic, pandemic or other calamity, the following duties and responsibilities will be added to the above listed Major Job Responsibilities and Duties, as directed by the Superintendent.Usage of personal equipment, including but not limited to personal cellular phone, personal computer, and personal internet service when working from home during a District closure due to government or Board order or during an emergency affecting normal District operations.Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as may be assigned by supervisor. All employees are expected to comply with lawful directives.Working Conditions:Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy procedures, maintain emotional control under stress.Frequent district-wide travel; biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.
