Job description
Surgical Intensive Care Unit – P4
nThe 40-bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) provides comprehensive multidisciplinary evaluation, management and recovery of post-surgical patients with critical illness. The patients typically have undergone a variety of general and specialty surgical procedures. The interprofessional team consists of board-certified critical care specialty providers from surgery and anesthesiology, SICU fellows, advanced practice providers, registered nurses, NAs and clinical pharmacists. As one of the largest ICUs in the region, the unit has a very diverse patient population covering many surgical disciplines providing limitless professional opportunities for staff to grow into a well-rounded caregiver.
nGENERAL SUMMARY:
nUnder the direction and supervision of the responsible Registered Nurse (RN), performs specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort needs of the patient. Provides input to assist the RN in planning and implementing patient care. Responds to emergent situations according to established procedures. Recognizes and participates in own continuing education. The Nurse Assistant follows the Henry Ford Health System Team Member Standards of Excellence in all interactions.
nEducation/Experience:
nnnHigh school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.
n
nnMust meet one of the following required criteria:
n
nnCompletion of a Nurse Assistant program (titles for similar programs may vary; e.g., Patient Care Technician (PCT) or Patient Assistant Technician (PAT)) but perform the same job role.
n
nnCompletion of a Medical Assistant program with or without experience.
n
nnAt least one (1) year of previous experience in an NA, PCT, PAT, or similar job role.
n
nnMay be currently enrolled in a nursing program and have successfully completed the Fundamentals of Nursing course.
n
nnForeign trained and licensed RN who has relocated to the United States and does not hold a Michigan RN license
n
n nCertifications/Licensures:
nnnCertified Nurse Assistant (CNA) license preferred.
n
nnComplete BLS Heartsaver Certification during orientation.
