Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Nurse Manager to oversee the health services in the Amherst, Pelham and Amherst-Pelham Regional School Districts. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the school nursing program, ensuring the health and well-being of students, and promoting a safe and healthy school environment. This full-time position requires a strong leader with excellent communication skills and a passion for student health. This is a position in the Amherst Pelham Administrators Association (APAA).
Responsibilities
Manage and supervise the school health offices, including daily operations and staff performance.
Develop, implement, and evaluate health policies and procedures in accordance with state regulations and school district guidelines.
Provide direct nursing care to students, including assessment, treatment, and management of acute and chronic health issues.
Collaborate with parents, teachers, and healthcare providers to develop and implement Individual Health Plans (IHPs) for students with special health needs.
Conduct health screenings and immunization programs, maintaining accurate health records and documentation.
Provide health education to students, staff, and families on various health topics, including nutrition, mental health, and disease prevention.
Serve as a liaison between the school, families, and community health resources.
Monitor and manage school health trends and report significant health issues to school administration and appropriate authorities.
Train and supervise nursing staff and volunteers, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
Participate in school committees and contribute to the development of a comprehensive health education program.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution; Master’s degree preferred.
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Massachusetts.
MA DESE School Nurse License
Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience, with at least 1 year in a school or pediatric setting preferred.
Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with students, parents, and staff.
Knowledge of state and federal health regulations, as well as school health policies.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
CPR and First Aid certification required; additional certifications in school nursing or public health preferred.
Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings for school events or meetings.
Commitment to promoting a healthy and safe school environment for all students.
This position is located in the Amherst Regional High School.
