Job description
Nurse Paraeducator
The job of Nurse/Paraeducator is done for the purpose of assisting the teaching staff with the medical, academic, social and behavior management needs of each student; providing health care services meeting the individual health needs of students; and providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured students.
Essential duties include administering first aid, medication and specialized medical treatments; assisting with the collection of data; assisting students with lesson assignments; communicating with teachers and/or parents; conducting age appropriate programs and/or activities; implementing health care plans for students with health problems; implementing instructional programs and lesson plans; maintaining student's confidential files and records; monitoring individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings; participating in meetings, workshops and seminars; reporting observations and incidents relating to specific students; responding to emergency medical situations; and supporting classroom teachers and other school personnel.
Other functions include performing other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Job requirements include skills, knowledge, and abilities in applying codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment; preparing and maintaining accurate records; adhering to safety practices; administering first aid; and operating medical equipment utilized in school environment. Knowledge includes providing health services in a school setting; state laws regarding sexually transmitted diseases; health standards and hazards; and stages of child development. Ability includes maintaining confidentiality; communicating with diverse groups; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; adhering to safety practices; and being attentive to detail.
