nThe Family Nurse Practitioner in the College of Nursing delivers primary care in a mobile school-based clinic setting to students, faculty, staff, families and community residents in rural areas around the Brazos Valley of Texas. Provides primary care working collaboratively with an interprofessional team. Travels to the mobile clinic sites.

nResponsibilities
nFNP Practice and Clinical Preceptor
nnnPerforms history, psychosocial, and physical examinations, diagnosis of acute, chronic, and urgent/episodic primary care conditions, formulates therapeutic plans of care, ordering and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic imaging, electrocardiographic exams, medication management and provides education to patients and their families.
n
nnCoordinates the care of patients to provide safe, effective, efficient, and timely patient-centered care. Liaises between clinical staff and consult services. Consults with physicians and other members of the healthcare team regarding the care of patients as appropriate.
n
nnOrders therapeutic modalities such as medications, treatments, diagnostic tests, etc.
n
nnPerforms primary care procedures.
n
nnProvides primary health care maintenance of the population served, including immunizations and recommended health screenings.
n
nnCounsels and instructs patients and significant others as appropriate on medications, disease, procedures, and preventive healthcare.
n
nnAssesses, stabilizes, and determines disposition of patients with emergent conditions consistent with policy regarding emergency and consultative call services.
n
nnServes as a clinical resource for staff through consultation formal and informal education, review of literature and participation in seminars, conferences, and simulation.
n
nnDocuments clinical encounters clearly, precisely, and in a timely manner.
n
nnApplies, models, and teaches evidence-based treatment and care in clinical setting.
n
nnPrecepts advance practice and pre-licensure nursing students each semester.
n
nnPromotes costs savings and optimal patient experience in primary care.
n
nnParticipates in rapid cycle continuous process improvement.
n
nnParticipates in data reporting.
n
nnParticipates in scholarly projects as appropriate.
n
nnPerforms other duties as assigned.
n
n nTeam Leadership and Performance Management
nnnPerforms the role of Team Lead for the full-time and PRN Nurse Practitioners
n
nnWorks with leadership to coordinate and supervise activities of team members engaged in clinical care or service delivery.
n
nnProvides supervision, guidance, and effective performance management feedback to employees in areas of responsibility.
n
nnRecommends, implements, and documents performance improvement actions under the direction of administration.
n
n nRequired Education and Experience
nnnMaster of Science degree in nursing or higher with national board certification as a family nurse practitioner or equivalent combination of education and experience.
n
nnOne year directly related experience serving as a family nurse practitioner.
n
n nRequired Licenses and Certifications
nnnRequires an active license as a Registered Nurse and as an Advance Practice Registered Nurse, Family Nurse Practitioner, in the state of Texas with prescriptive authority and national board certification as a family nurse practitioner.
n
nnTexas Driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
n
n nPreferred Qualifications
nnnMaster of Science in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice preferred.
n
nnAt least five years of clinical nursing experience.
n
nnExperience with computer systems required, including web based applications and electronic health records, some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
n
nnExperience in health professions education is preferred.
n
nnAmerican Heart Association - Basic Life Support Certificate.
n
n nKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities

nnKnowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
