Job description
Nurse Practitioner
Thundermist's Mission: To improve the health of our patients and communities by delivering exceptional health care, removing barriers to that care, and advancing healthy lifestyles.
About the Role
Are you a Nurse Practitioner who thrives in a fast-paced, high-impact clinical environment? Thundermist Health Center is looking for a skilled, compassionate Nurse Practitioner to join our Convenient Care team. In this role, you'll deliver walk-in and same-day medical care to patients across our community — treating acute illness and injury, performing point-of-care testing and minor procedures, and making real-time clinical decisions as an autonomous, licensed provider. If you're passionate about health equity, community health, and meeting patients where they are, this is the opportunity for you.
What You'll Do
Clinical Care
Provide comprehensive patient care including history, physical examination, anticipatory guidance, and management of acute and chronic illness
Evaluate and treat acute, episodic illness and injury — lacerations, fractures, sprains, infections, and more
Perform point-of-care testing (rapid strep, flu, COVID, urinalysis, STI, and more)
Perform wound care, suturing, splinting, and minor surgical procedures
Order diagnostic tests (X-ray, ultrasound, labs) and initiate treatment based on results
Prescribe medications within scope of practice
Triage patients and determine the appropriate level of care, escalation, or transfer
Provide discharge instructions and coordinate appropriate follow-up care
Maintain complete and accurate patient records with same-day documentation
Supervise and mentor nurse practitioner students as assigned
Administrative & Quality
Participate in peer chart review on a rotating basis
Contribute to departmental and team meetings
Meet patient throughput and productivity standards
Maintain compliance with credentialing, re-credentialing, and privileging requirements
Participate in quality improvement initiatives
What We're Looking For
You bring clinical expertise, sound judgment, and genuine compassion to every patient encounter. You're an autonomous provider who's equally comfortable suturing a laceration, and connecting with a patient who just needs to be heard.
Active Rhode Island RN and NP licensure
ANA certification in family medicine, internal medicine, women's health, or pediatrics
Commitment to ongoing CEU and professional development
Exceptional oral and written communication skills with proficiency in medical terminology
A genuine commitment to patient-centered, high-quality care for diverse and underserved populations, with an authentic passion for health equity and community health
Compassion, cultural humility, and a real investment in patient well-being — consistent with Thundermist's mission
Schedule & Locations
This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position with a flexible shift structure: two 12-hour shifts and two 8-hour shifts per week. The schedule includes every other weekend and shared holiday coverage. You'll provide care across our Woonsocket, West Warwick, and South Kingstown locations. Clinic hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m., and weekends 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. (including closing responsibilities).
