nPosition Summary
nWe are dedicated to providing exceptional care for patients with a broad range of digestive health conditions. From prevention and screening to diagnosis and advanced treatment, our expert team ensures patients receive the highest level of comprehensive gastrointestinal care.
nThe Nurse Practitioner (NP) will work alongside and in collaboration with the general GI team of physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, medical assistants, and administrative staff to provide high quality care and management of new, established, and returning patients across both Upper East Side and Lower Manhattan Hospital (LMH) practice locations.
nThis role supports the clinical, educational, and academic mission of the institution. In addition to clinical responsibilities, this role may include teaching and mentorship through institutional training programs, including the WCM PA Program.
nAdditionally, the NP will:
nnnSpecialize in seeing patient populations in general gastroenterology, including a wide spectrum of outpatient GI conditions include Obesity/IChange program and follow-up care

nnProvide coverage across uptown and LMH clinical sites as part of a collaborative GI practice model
n
nnParticipate in multidisciplinary care coordination for complex GI patients
n
nnProvide direct patient care and assess patients through comprehensive health histories and physical examinations
n
nnInitiate and order selected therapeutic and diagnostic procedures as determined by specialty area(s), following appropriate clinical protocols
n
nnEducate and counsel patients in accordance with department and specialty practice standards
n
nnConfer with physicians and other healthcare providers in completing and implementing appropriate patient treatment plans
n
nnAssist with care coordination, procedural follow-up, and longitudinal management of GI patients as needed
n
n nSchedule : Monday – Friday. The position will include 5–6 independent clinical sessions per week, with the option for a partial hybrid schedule pending growth in the position and departmental approval. Including vacation/sick and Friday afternoon coverage of the LMH inpatient NP (split/shared coverage plan with the additional outpatient NP)
nJob Responsibilities
nnnResponsible for direct patient care on an outpatient and/or inpatient service.
n
nnEvaluates new and/or established patients by obtaining comprehensive and focused health histories and performing both limited and complete physical examinations as appropriate.
n
nnOrders labs, imaging, diagnostic testing, and consultations. Reviews and interprets results to develop patient care plan. Prescribes medications and therapeutic interventions as appropriate, following accepted standard of care and practice guidelines.
n
nnDepending on department and training, performs therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
n
nnEnters the above in patients’ medical records in accordance with documentation best practice standards.
n
nnCounsels/educates patients and their care providers on acute/chronic disease management, disease prevention and health promotion, considering age, education, psychosocial needs, and cultural background to ensure safe, complete, & culturally competent care.
n
nnConfers with specialists, attending physicians, residents, nursing staff, and/or other health care providers to promote continuity of care and optimize patient outcomes.
n
nnParticipates in performance improvement and educational activities as appropriate.
n
nnAssists in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of research protocols when applicable.
n
nnPerforms related duties & responsibilities as determined by patient or practice needs and as required by delineation of privileges, in accordance with legal scope of practice and departmental protocols.

n nEducation
nnMaster’s of Science Degree in Nursing
n nExperience
nApproximately 2 or more years of clinical experience as an NP in a physician practice or hospital setting, preferably within a related specialty.
nNew graduates with related RN experience may be considered.
nPrior experience or interest in clinical teaching, precepting, or academic program involvement in an advanced practice provider training program is preferred.
nKnowledge, Skills and Abilities

n nLicenses and Certifications
nnnNYS Registered Nurse Practitioner (NP) license and current NP registration

nnNYS Registered Professional Nurse license and current RN registration

nnApplicable National Board Certification (such as ANCC, PNCB, etc)
n
nnCurrent BLS (must be issued by American Heart Association)
n
nnInfection Control Certificate
n
nnCurrent Narcotics DEA registration certificate
n
