nThe Nurse Practitioner II, Psychiatry provides clinical assessments and diagnostic evaluations. Provides crisis intervention for patients with mental health care needs. Prescribes and monitors medications. Assumes responsibility for difficult and complex patients based on experience or area of expertise. May serve as a practicum instructor or preceptor for graduate or undergraduate students. May conduct scholarly presentations to clinic staff and participate in educational activities for staff, students and trainees of other disciplines.

nRequired Education and Experience
nnMaster’s Degree in Nursing or equivalent level of education and experience that qualifies the applicant to hold a Nurse Practitioner License in Texas.
n nRequired Licenses and Certifications
nnnTexas Board of Nursing Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licenses with prescriptive authority in Texas
n
nnBoard certified in mental health
n
nnDEA registration
n
nnBLS certification
n
nnAll licensure/certification must be maintained for continued employment
n
n nPreferred Qualifications
nnnPrior experience in MAT
n
nnBilingual
n
n nResponsibilities
nClinical Assessments and Evaluations
nnnEngages in clinical assessments and diagnostic evaluations.
n
nnProvides crisis intervention for patients with mental health care needs.
n
nnMonitors patients to ensure adherence to treatment plans.
n
nnAssumes responsibility for difficult and complex patients based on experience or area of expertise.
n
n nMedication Management and Documentation
nnnPrescribes and monitors medications.
n
nnCompletes accurate and appropriate documentation of patient encounters in the electronic medical records system in a timely manner.
n
nnActs in accordance with all departmental policies/procedures, relevant licensing boards, and local, state, and federal laws regulating Nurse Practitioners.
n
n nCounseling and Consultation
nnnEngages in counseling/clinical-related activities and works closely with the Integrated Behavioral Health unit.
n
nnConsults with other providers regarding patients' psychiatric medications and treatment plans to ensure appropriateness and coordination of care.
n
nnServes as an internal resource for staff and medical providers regarding psychiatric-mental health care questions.
n
n nEducation and Training
nnnMay serve as a practicum instructor or preceptor for graduate or undergraduate students.
n
nnParticipates in continuing education to maintain licensure and board certification.
n
nnMay conduct scholarly presentations to clinic staff and participate in educational activities for staff, students, and trainees of other disciplines.
n
n nAdministrative Duties
nnnEngages in various administrative aspects of counseling/clinical cases.
n
nnCompletes outside referrals as needed.
n
nnMay assist in preparing patient educational materials.
n
