nJob Description Summary
nA Urology Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an advanced practice provider specializing in the comprehensive care of patients with conditions affecting patients’ urinary tract and the male reproductive system. Working collaboratively with urologists and the multidisciplinary healthcare team, the Urology NP provides advanced nursing care across the continuum of care in a variety of specialized settings. The Urology NP plays a critical role in improving patient outcomes related to common and complex urologic issues.

nEssential Functions
nnnManages and treats patients with common and complex urological conditions, focusing on clinical excellence, patient education, and collaboration.
n
nnConducts physical examinations on patients and evaluates symptoms related to voiding patterns, sexual health, pain, and continence.
n
nnOrders, performs, and interprets diagnostic and screening tests, such as lab work, and imaging studies.
n
nnDiagnoses, treats, and manages the health care needs of patients with neurological conditions, referring to physicians when medically appropriate.
n
nnConsults and collaborates with urologists, primary care providers, and other specialists to ensure coordinated and holistic patient care.
n
nnPerforms or assists with minor office-based procedures as credentialed, (such as: catheterizations, cystoscopy, bladder instillations and injections, and prostate biopsies.)
n
nnCoordinates follow-up care and referrals.
n
nnCompiles and evaluate medical history, physical findings and diagnostic data to include but not limited to radiographic, laboratory, ultrasound, EKG, EEG, CT and nuclear scans, MRI and MRA studies on all patients to formulate accurate diagnoses.
n
nnMonitors medications and initiates appropriate therapies and alters medications according to variations in a patient's response within established protocols.
n
nnProvides and documents patient education regarding adherence to complex treatment pathways, medications, and community resources. Promotes urological health, lifestyle modifications, treatment options, disease prevention, and management strategies.
n
nnCoordinates the implementation and continuity of medical treatment through activities such as home/hospital findings and other resources.
n
nnParticipates in the orientation and staff development programs for personnel assisting with patient care.
n
nnPerforms other duties as requested by primary manager that do not compromise moral code of conduct or protocols set in place for patient or employee safety

nMinimum Education Required
nnnAcademic preparation and degree as Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner with current licensure in state of AL
n
nnBCLS certification

nnACLS certification

n nMinimum Experience Preferred
nn2+ years in fields that involve procedural skills experience (such as, adult gerontology units, operating room, nephrology or dialysis, or geriatrics
n nRequired Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities
nnnMaintains current Alabama licensure.
n
nnMaintains current any certifications obtained.
n
nnPossesses a strong foundation in evidence-based practice and education and accepts the responsibility for providing an environment of safe quality care.

nnDetailed wound care and suture removal.
n
nnDemonstrates an advanced level of medical and nursing knowledge, clinical and technical competence, sound clinical judgment and professionalism as it relates to interpersonal and general communication skills.
n
nnAccepts accountability for his/her own work and team outcomes when appropriate.
n
nnReports promptly any critical or unusual situations.
n
nnDemonstrates ability to work with patients, families, visitors, and co-workers regardless of race, gender, disease process, life-style, religious or cultural beliefs.

nnWorks as a liaison for the patient to gain access to providers, case management, and dietary consults.

nnAbility to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

nnDemonstrates the knowledge and ability to select appropriate guidelines for the following age groups: Adult 19-65 years, and Geriatric 65 years and older

nnPractices effective stress reduction techniques.

nnDemonstrates knowledge of the computer based medical record.

nnDemonstrates responsibility for educational requirements as evidenced by reading all assigned related references, and attending all required educational meetings, or webinars, and completing annual Symplr requirements.
