Job description
Nursery TechnicianThe Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry (ODAFF) is seeking part-time Nursery Technicians with a primary duty of assisting other nursery staff with duties related to growing and harvesting conservation seedlings.These positions are located in Goldsby, Oklahoma and Idabel, Oklahoma.Current Wages: $15.25 to $16.25 per hour based on experience.The Nursery Technician is a temporary position that may work up to 40 hours per week depending on the season and tasks needed. The term of employment is up to 999 hours per calendar year. The term of employment is also dependent upon weather conditions, statutory requirements, time of year, scheduled work load, and other climatic and biological factors.Examples of tasks performed:Assisting with planting and harvesting seedlingsCollecting and preparing seed for plantingWeeding around seedlings in the fieldMaintaining irrigation linesMaintaining fields with a mower, brush hog and weed eaterCleaning and maintaining buildings and trucksProcessing seedlings during harvest seasonCounting/tying seedlings in bundles to prepare for shippingDay-to-day general operating proceduresPhysical demands and conditions under which the work is performed: The Nursery Technician is expected to work under all types of weather conditions. Various types of motor skills are used in walking, climbing, bending, reaching, and lifting to carry out assigned tasks. Movement over uneven ground and through all types of topographic conditions is necessary. The Nursery Technician must be physically able to work in extreme weather conditions. Some tasks are performed around farm machinery and other specialized equipment.
