Nursing Assistant PositionFairview is looking for a Nursing Assistant at the M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN! This position is 56 hours per two weeks on the Day shift, for 8 hour shifts, and every other weekend.M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital offers care to people living and working in the southwest Twin Cities metro area. Working together, we respectfully address the comprehensive needs of our patients and their families.About This Unit:The Intermediate Care Unit (IMC) at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital is a fast-paced 30-bed surgical specialty unit focused on delivering patient-centered care through strong multidisciplinary collaboration. The team manages a diverse mix of complex surgical and medical patients, including those recovering from vascular, thoracic, and open-heart procedures, as well as cardiac and respiratory cases requiring advanced monitoring. With telemetry capabilities and a progressive training approach, this unit offers a supportive environment for both RNs and nursing support staff to grow their skills and thrive in high-acuity care.Job ResponsibilitiesThe Nursing Assistant is responsible for assisting the professional nurse/caregiver in the delivery of patient care, transporting patient and/or equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and the reordering and stocking of supplies. The Nursing Assistant does not work autonomously but works under the direction of a professional nurse. The Nursing Assistant may be given a patient care assignment based on unit needs and the discretion of the manager/charge nurse.Provides basic patient care by performing routine duties to include:Personal grooming, bathing, toileting, feedingSkin care needs (clean and sterile dressing changes), applying ointments/creamsOral hygieneSpecimen collection/testingPosition/ambulatingChanging linensPromptly answers call lightsAssists the nurse in monitoring patient condition.Accurately takes and records weights, input/output, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rates, respiration, oxygen saturation.Places patient on/off monitors or equipment.Reports unusual findings to the RN in a timely manner.Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharge of patients.Orients patient and their family to the environment.Assures the patient's belongings are accounted for, documented upon admission, transfer and discharge.Transports patients, equipment, specimen and supplies.Assures patients get to appointments on time.Uses transfer belt when assisting patients with transfers and/or ambulation.Cleans sets up, and maintains rooms and equipment.Orders and stocks supplies.Accurately documents tasks performed on appropriate form.Performs other tasks as needed.Required QualificationsLicense/Certification/RegistrationBasic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. Ontrack participants much be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.AND ONE or more of the following:Successful completion of Fairview's OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program.OrSix months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)OrCurrent enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program.OrCurrent certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position.
