nUNC Health Johnston - Smithfield, located in Smithfield, NC, has a new OB Hospitalist Program and is seeking experienced OB Hospitalist Physicians to join this exciting initiative. This is a 100% inpatient, inhouse OB Hospitalist role offering a predictable schedule, strong clinical volumes, and the opportunity to help shape a growing program within the UNC Health system.
nThis OB Hospitalist group will operate as a separate, dedicated team supporting labor and delivery services at Smithfield, with long‑term strategic growth planned for Johnston County.

nnnNew OB Hospitalist program began April 1, 2026

nnEmployed position within UNC Health Medical Group
n
nnDedicated OB Hospitalist model - no outpatient clinic
n
nnLevel II NICU at UNC Health Johnston - Smithfield
n
nnStrong, established referral base with consistent clinical volume
n
nnOpportunity to participate in program development and growth
n
n nPosition Responsibilities
nnnProvide 24/7 in‑house OB Hospitalist coverage
n
nnManage obstetric triage, labor, delivery, and postpartum care
n
nnPerform all deliveries at the Smithfield campus
n
nnProvide GYN care for cases presenting through the Emergency Department
n
nnCare for:
n
nnUnassigned patients presenting to the ED
n
nnPatients from the UNCHMG Traditional OB/GYN group at Smithfield
n
nnCollaborate with CNMs, nursing staff, anesthesia, and hospital leadership
n
nnSupport quality initiatives, patient safety, and team‑based care
n
n nSchedule
nnn24/7 in‑house coverage required
n
nn(7) 24hr shifts per month
n
nnOne OB Hospitalist in house per week
n
nnPhysicians must remain in‑house during shifts
n
nnNo outpatient or call‑back responsibilities
n
n nCandidate Requirements
nnnMD or DO
n
nnBoard Certified or Board Eligible in Obstetrics & Gynecology
n
nnPrior OB Hospitalist experience required
n
nnACLS certification required
n
