Job description
Job Summary
nEvaluates, directs, plans, and provides Occupational Therapy treatment for patients of all ages with a wide variety of disabilities to help them achieve a maximum level of functional independence. Documents patient care and results of treatment appropriately in the medical report to comply with policies and procedures of the department and regulatory agencies.
nJob Duties
nnnEvaluates, directs, plans, and provides Occupational Therapy treatment for patients of all ages.
n
nnAdheres to all department specific standards of care, clinical guidelines, and protocols in rendering patient care as described in department policy and procedures.
n
nnCompletes assessments as established by unit standards and addresses physical, social, and psychological needs of patient and family.
n
nnCompletes assessments on all admissions and discharges.
n
nnFormulates plan of care based on identified patient problem areas in conjunction with the patient, family, and other health care team members, including health teaching, family needs and discharge planning.
n
nnEstablishes suitable and achievable goals with time frames.
n
nnAdministers treatments according to priority and department procedure.
n
nnEvaluates effectiveness of therapy interventions and revises plan of care based upon patient response to interventions or because lack of progress.
n
nnCoordinates and provides patient care, discharge planning, and patient and family education through initiation and participation in care conferences.
n
nnAdheres to all portions of the program including precautions, special problems, and contraindications consistently and appropriately.
n
nnProvides education and instructions to the patient and family specific to the patient's needs and individual treatment program.
n
nnThoroughly documents Occupational Therapy evals, treatments, responses to treatments, discharge summaries, and patient and family education in a timely and accurate manner.
n
nnProvides for patient equipment and therapy needs when applicable after discharge.
n
nnSupervises and directs patient care provided by other staff members.
n
nnMakes patient assignments in collaboration with other team members.
n
nnDirects and alters assignments in response to changes in patient situations.
n
nnContributes to departmental program development.
n
nnParticipates in continuing education opportunities to maintain competence in job function and assures safe and effective patient practice.
n
nnContributes to community educational programs.
n
nnAlerts the care team of emergency situations and takes appropriate actions (i.e. patient falls, patient not responding, etc.).
n
nnUtilizes patient and employee occurrence and incident reports.
n
n nWork is typically performed in a clinical environment. Accountable for satisfying all job specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.
