Company Overview
Altius Talent is partnering with an established international freight forwarder serving importers and exporters across global trade lanes. Their New Jersey operation handles a steady volume of ocean export shipments through the Port of New York and New Jersey.
Position Overview
The Ocean Export Specialist manages the full export shipment lifecycle from booking through delivery. You will coordinate with shippers, carriers, truckers, and overseas agents to keep cargo moving on schedule and in compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Process ocean export bookings (FCL and LCL) and coordinate with carriers and consolidators
Prepare and issue Bills of Lading, including house and master BL, and verify documentation accuracy
File AES/EEI submissions and confirm correct HTS/Schedule B classification
Arrange drayage, container pick-up and return, and terminal cut-off coordination
Track shipments and give proactive status updates to customers and overseas agents
Handle letters of credit documentation and other customer-specific requirements as needed
Monitor demurrage and detention exposure, and resolve exceptions and delays
Maintain accurate records in the TMS (CargoWise preferred)
Key Skills & Qualifications
2+ years of ocean export experience at a freight forwarder or NVOCC
Working knowledge of Incoterms, export compliance, and ocean documentation
Familiarity with the NY/NJ port complex, terminals, and drayage providers
Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple time-sensitive shipments
Clear written and verbal communication with customers, carriers, and agents
CargoWise or comparable forwarding system experience preferred
