nThe Advanced Practice Provider (APP) provides night remote on call coverage for Surgical House Patients from 7p to 7a, shifts available Monday thru Sunday. Occasional need to report in when patient care concern cannot be triaged remotely or urgent consult required. Looking for candidates who are willing to commit to 12, 24, 36, 48 hour schedule.

nThe Advanced Practice Provider (APP) serves as a key clinical provider and team member in the treatment and management of the surgical patient in the pre, peri and post-operative setting. This role practices under the direction of the Chief of Surgery and other attending surgeons in a manner consistent with both the Board(s) regulations and hospital policy. Primarily, the APP will cover patients of BID-Needham physicians credentialed in the Department of Surgery. The APP is responsible for the initial assessment and admission of patients; assisting in the evaluation and preparation of patients for surgery; acting as first and second assistant in the operating room; and caring for patients following surgery and helping prepare patients for discharge.

nJob Description Essential Responsibilities:

nnnPerforms comprehensive focused history & physical exams on surgical patients admitted through the ED & those held for Observation, initiates appropriate lab, radiology & other tests required for evaluation of illness, and scrutinizes data on patients and hospital admissions to establish a record of the patient's health status & to develop a diagnosis & treatment plan, with direct review by an MD.

nnPerforms and interprets, at least to the point of recognizing deviations from normal, common laboratory, radiologic, cardiographic and other routine diagnostic procedures used to identify pathophysiologic processes, as privileged.

n

nnInterprets and correlates subjective and objective data to formulate a differential diagnosis and establishes a working diagnosis

n

nnFormulates a treatment plan for medical problems within scope of practice. Writes initial orders in coordination with the attending physician. Implements therapeutic intervention for specific conditions, when appropriate. Educates patients regarding their disease, treatments, related drug and treatment side effects and hazards

n

nnExercises judgment on problems requiring consultation, referral, or evaluation by the supervising surgeon or other health care professionals

n

nnPerforms routine procedures, managing simple conditions produced by infection or trauma, assisting in the management of more complex illness and injury which may include assisting surgeons in conducting operations and taking initiative in performing evaluation and therapeutic procedures in response to life-threatening situations, as privileged

n

nnPerforms specialized procedures, including suturing/stapling of major lacerations, wound debridement, blood draws, designated IV starts, central venous line placement, arterial line placement, venous cut downs, foley catheter insertion +/- bladder irrigation, as well as other specific procedures in the Emergency Department and on the inpatient units, with the approved delineation of privileges.

nnHandles a broad variety of surgical specialty and subspecialty procedures

n

nnParticipates in on all in-house surgical patients as required, upon arrival for duty and responds to all Codes

n

nnAssists Emergency Department physicians in cases of surgical consultation in the Emergency Department within the APP's scope of practice.

n

n nRequired Qualifications:

nnnBachelor's degree in Nurse Practitioner required.

n

nnRegistration Nurse Practitioner License required., and Certificate 1 Basic Life Support required., and Certificate 2 Advanced Cardiac Life Support required., or a Physician Assistant licensed by the MA Board of Physician Assistants which requires candidates to have passed the National Commission on Certification of PA examination.

n

nn0-1 years related work experience required in post graduate experience as a surgical APP (min 1 year required).

n

nnNurse Practitioner candidates must also have RNFA certification.

n

nnDemonstrated analytical abilities and strong interpretative skills for integrating information from the patient history, physical exam and diagnostic data to be able to formulate a differential diagnosis and subsequent treatment plan for patients in both elective and emergent situations.

n

nnExperience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

n

nEmployees in this job must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Neonatal:Birth to 6 months, Youth: 6 months to 16 years, Young adult: 16-30 years, Middle Age: 30 - 60 years, Elderly: 60 -.

nPhysical Nature of the Job:

nHeavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds of force frequently. Work is physically demanding and requires extended periods of standing and/or moving.

nPay Range:

n$56.25 - $91.83

nThe pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
