Operating Engineer/CustodianEvergreen School District seeks a Full Time Operating Engineer/Custodian to join one of the leading K-8 school districts in the state of Montana. Evergreen's mission is to enable students to become responsible citizens and lifelong learners by ensuring quality instruction in a nurturing environment. The Operating Engineer is responsible for thoroughly cleaning the facilities. This position reports directly to the Maintenance Director.Preferred Minimum Qualifications:High school diploma or GEDCurrent knowledge of methods and materials to perform custodial workWorking knowledge of heating, plumbing, lighting and ventilating equipmentManual dexterity and certification of good physical healthJob Responsibilities:Sweeps, mops, wet-washes, vacuums, dusts and polishes fixtures, floors and roomsMoves furniture and equipmentScrubs and disinfects restrooms and drinking fountains; Empties and cleans waste and trash receptaclesKeeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas, neat and clean at all timesAssumes responsibility for general security of the building, and reports any vandalism or theft to supervisorCompletes touch-up painting, minor repairs to plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general mechanical areasWashes windows, chalkboardsReplaces and installs light bulbsCompletes snow maintenance/removal, grass cutting, and other maintenance tasksAssists staff members as requestedWorks in cafeteria as assignedDirects temporary employees on occasionKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:Ability to follow directives and successfully fulfill assignmentsAbility to operate tools and equipment used in custodial workAbility to observe and report maintenance repairsAbility to lift and move heavy objectsAbility to report needed building repairsAbility to requisition custodial supplyAbility to fulfill responsibilities with minimal directionAbility to climb ladders, work in confined areas, lift heavy materials, and operate machineryAbility to interact in a positive manner with faculty and students and deal effectively with young peoplePhysical Demands:Works inside and outside the school building in both a controlled environment as well as occasionally in inclement weatherWorks with corrosive, toxic chemicals and soaps that give off fumesWorks with hand and electrical toolsRequired to be "on feet" the majority of the dayTerms of Employment:Hourly, year round, Remuneration contingent upon preparation and experienceHealth insurance, leave, and retirement providedWork schedule/hours vary by placement and assignment can be modified as determined by supervisor
