Medical Scribe duties and responsibilities
A Medical Scribe is a paraprofessional who acts as a personal assistant to a Physician or Doctor and collects information from patients in real-time during their visits. Some of their main responsibilities in a medical facility include:
Documentation Duties
* Record physician-patient interactions in real-time during visits.
* Document medical histories, physical exams, and provider orders.
* Enter patient information into electronic health record (EHR) systems.
* Prepare and organize medical records for physician review.
Clinical Support Tasks
* Assist physicians with patient care, including preparing patients for exams.
* Test patient intra-ocular pressure
* Check patients vitals as needed
* Assist the doctor in treatment procedures
* Help manage the flow of patients in the clinic or hospital setting.
Administrative Tasks
* Complete paperwork such as referral letters.
* Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
* Electronically prescribe medication for patients
* Work with supervising Physician or Doctor to complete and submit medical records
* Collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure efficient patient care.
Qualifications and Skills:
Requirement Description
Education High school diploma or equivalent; healthcare training preferred
Experience Prior experience in a medical setting is required
Skills
- Proficient typing skills (60 WPM preferred)
- Experienced with Word based programs
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to multitask and work under pressure
Work Environment
Medical Assistant Scribes are expected to work well in a fast-paced healthcare setting. The role requires excellent organizational skills and the ability to quickly learn and adjust to new technologies and specialty vocabulary. Company Description
