Job description
Ophthalmic Tech-CertifiedThis job provides individualized, direct patient care of assigned patients under the supervision of a licensed healthcare provider. Assists in the implementation of the delivery of health care services and provides care and service with individuals of all assigned age groups.EducationRequired - High School diploma or equivalentPreferred - Completion of a four year Ophthalmic Medical Technology programWork ExperienceRequired - None.Preferred - Experience in an ophthalmic care settingCertificationsRequired - Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) through JCAHPOBasic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart AssociationKnowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)Must have computer and/or mainframe terminal and multi-line telephone skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.Good interpersonal skills.Ability to and experience working with and maintaining confidential information.Ability to use equipment, perform tests and read results, as needed, including: visual acuity, extra ocular motility, pupil evaluation, confrontational fields, color vision, stereo vision, tonopen/applanation tonometry, lensometry, keratometry, eye irrigation, refractometry, manual a-scan measurements, topography, brightness acuity testing, and slit lamp examination.Ability to assist with removal and insertion of contact lenses.Job DutiesSupports Provider/Physician to ensure readiness for patient visit.Supports Provider/Physician during encounter with patient.Supports Provider/Physician following patient visit.Provides excellent telephone communications.Completes appropriate documentation.Achieves Nurse/Asst percentile rank and promptness in returning phone calls in patient satisfaction scores.Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.Other related duties as required.
