Job description
Ophthalmology TechnicianAssists in the various functions and clinical care of patients in the Divisions Ophthalmology and Neuro-Ophthalmology. This position requires providing service to the following age population(s) infant, pediatric, adult, older adult and frail elderly in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served.An Ophthalmology Technician plays a crucial role in assisting ophthalmologist by performing a variety of technical duties. Direct in-patient & out-patient care, diagnostic testing, and ensuring that patients receive the highest level of service possible. This helps in accurate diagnosis, treatment, and management of eye conditions.Essential Functions:Taking patient histories, measuring visual acuity and eye pressure, conducting diagnostic imaging (like Humphrey Visual Fields, OCT, Fundus Photography), administering eye medications, assisting with minor surgeries, and updating patient records.Education & Experience Requirements:High School education required.Post-high school ophthalmic assistant education or training required.American Board of Opticianry (ABO); National Contact Lens Examiners (NCLE); Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) Certifications preferred.Knowledge of medical terminology required, ophthalmology CPT and ICD-9-CM coding required.Other CPT and ICD-9-CM coding preferred.Basic computer skills required.
