In every area and at every level, Guthrie caregivers are committed to serving the community and supporting patients through compassionate, high-quality care.Position Summary:The Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for performing advanced ophthalmic workups, diagnostic testing, and assisting providers in patient care across clinical and surgical settings. This role supports providers during exams, office-based procedures, and operating room cases (minimum of 12 annually).The position requires strong knowledge of ophthalmic workflows, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while delivering patient-centered care.Education, Licensure & CertificationAll candidates will require:High school diploma or equivalentConsideration will be given to candidates who:Have submitted their COA (Certified Ophthalmic Assistant) application and are awaiting a testing date, orHave attempted the COA examination but have not yet achieved a passing scoreExperiencePreferred: 2+ years in ophthalmology or optometryConsideration given to candidates with experience in medical or dental settingsStrong customer service, multitasking, and critical thinking skills are requiredEssential FunctionsObtain and document patient history, chief complaints, and collect clinical information including comprehensive medical, medication, allergy, family and social history for provider reviewPerform ophthalmic testing, diagnostics, and assist in clinical proceduresAdminister medications (e.g., eye drops) per scope of practiceAccurately document findings in the EMR and scribe provider examsEducate patients and assist with informed consent and surgical preparationAssist providers with in-office laser procedures and minor surgeriesMaintain sterilization, cleaning, and inventory of instruments and equipmentManage referrals, forms, and co-management trackingMonitor provider schedules for accuracy and efficiency and assist with triage of calls/messagesAdditional ResponsibilitiesParticipate in staff training and onboardingAttend required meetings and educational sessionsProvide coverage to all providers across locations as neededSupport departmental workflow and team collaborationPay Range (dependent on experience):Uncertified: $18.92 - $29.98/hourCertified: $20.85 - $33.04/hourO.R. Certified: $22.98 - $36.40/hour
