Job description
Ops Communications Intern - Join FDOT and be part of the team that works as one to improve safety, enhance mobility and inspire innovation in the Florida transportation system. Visa sponsorship is not available.The mission of the Florida Department of Transportation is to provide a safe statewide transportation system that promotes the efficient movement of people and goods, supports the state's economic competitiveness, prioritizes Florida's environment and natural resources, and preserves the quality of life and connectedness of the state's communities.The work you will do:Provide support to the Communications Director and team for office operations and communications strategies, as well as work on special projects as needed.Assist in the preparation and distribution of external communications materials, such as social media posts, digital graphics, etc.Assist in the preparation and implementation of internal communications materials, such as newsletters, internal department messages from leadership, and more.Assist in the preparation and dissemination of general correspondence, such as emails, spreadsheets, letters, reports, presentations, and other documents.Provide back-up support to other members of the Communications Office as needed.Other related duties, as assigned.The successful candidate will have the following required knowledge, skills, and abilities:Knowledge of administrative principles and practicesKnowledge of general office procedures and practicesSkill in listening to and understanding the needs of both internal and external customers in a courteous, respectful and effective mannerSkill in independent planning, coordinating, completing and tracking the status of assignmentsSkill in Microsoft Office Suite such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and TEAMSSkill in planning, organizing and coordinating work assignmentsSkill in following oral and written instructionsAbility to communicate effectively orally and in writingAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with othersAbility to collect information/data and review for accuracy and completenessAbility to type letters, memos, and other standard business forms using correct formatAbility to track and monitor news stories, social media, and other external-facing platformsAbility to manage budgets and manage multiple accounts/servicesAbility to collect, evaluate and analyze data relating to the Communications OfficeAbility to prepare correspondence and reportsAbility to work independently and make recommendationsAbility to multi-taskAbility to work independently and within a team settingMinimum qualifications:Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.Must be authorized to work in the United States and provide identification supporting citizenship or authority to work for the duration of program participation.Participants are required to comply with all statutes and rules and the Department's policies, procedures, regulations, and Code of Ethics.The Florida Department of Transportation values and supports employment of individuals with disabilities.
