Job description
Overview
nDirectly reporting to the Director of Oral Surgery, with a dotted line to the Director of Clinical Education, and the Executive Assistant Dean of Clinical Affairs, oral surgery faculty are responsible for direct patient care and mentoring/teaching students within Touro College of Dental Medicine’s clinic in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
nResponsibilities
nnnInitiate and guide student doctor/patient interaction.
n
nnPerform dental procedures on patients of the clinic as needed.
n
nnModel and advise students on professionalism and patient management techniques.
n
nnAssist in solving patient related problems
n
nnAssist the Director of Oral Surgery in the review of each student’s performance within the oral surgery clinic.
n
nnAssuring accuracy of student clinical notes, approving student procedural code, and evaluating/assessing student in the areas of Preparedness, Professionalism, & Promptness.
n
nnMonitoring for unapproved notes of treatments on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
n
nnReport instances of misconduct to the Director of Oral Surgery.
n
nnMaintaining calibration as determined by the Director of Clinical Education as well as:
n
nnEnsuring all clinical protocols are being followed in their clinical areas.
n
nnInfection Control Compliance
n
nnComplete Reviews of student activity upon request.
n
nnAid in supervision of Clinical Formative and Summative Examination Process
n
nnAttend periodic meetings with the Director of Oral Surgery and attend clinical faculty meetings, including Faculty Forum.
n
nnMembership, if appointed, on relevant Clinical Committees.
n
n nQualifications
nRequired Qualifications
nnnD.D.S./DMD from a CODA-accredited dental school or equivalent.
n
nnCertificate of training and educationally qualified from an ADA-accredited specialty program.
n
nnDental License Registration; must be eligible for licensure in the state of New Mexico.
n
n nPreferred Qualifications
nnnPrevious teaching experience.
n
nnDEA number.
n
nnBoard Eligible or Certified.
n
nnA track record of scholarly activity and outstanding patient care, as well as demonstration of or likely commitment to diversity-related teaching/research/service.
n
nnEngagement and familiarity in curriculum development and digital dentistry technology and experience in faculty calibration.
n
nnA high degree of interpersonal competency: Professionalism, diplomacy, judgement and discretion required.
n
nnDemonstrated ability to develop positive and cooperative relationships with students, faculty and colleagues.
n
nnAbility to organize tasks.
