Company Description

Job Description

Join a mission-driven team at the New York City Housing Authority where civic engagement meets real impact. The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), the largest public housing authority in North America, was established in 1935 to provide safe, affordable housing for low- and moderate-income New Yorkers. Today, NYCHA serves over 528,000 residents, nearly 1 in 17 New Yorkers, across 335 public housing and PACT developments, as well as through Section 8 programs.

NYCHA's Department of Voter Engagement oversees all resident voting processes at NYCHA, including resident association elections and modernization votes. As part of the 2022 state legislation that established the New York City Public Housing Preservation Trust, a housing facility can convert to the Trust only after an affirmative resident vote. HUD 24 CFR 964 gives public housing residents the right to form resident associations. The Community Coordinator will play a key role in resident outreach to support both voting programs.

The Organizing Lead will assist in building out long-term capacity to implement votes and leverage this experience to advise on longer-term strategy. Reporting to the Modernization Vote Manager, the primary responsibilities of the Organizing Lead will include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Carry out individualized resident engagement strategies for developments where voting is taking place, including evening and weekend engagement activities.

2. Implement effective communication plans that motivate tenants to get involved in their tenant associations and participate in resident voting processes.

3. Represent the Department of Voter Engagement and present voter engagement materials at tenant elections meetings, informational meetings, and community events.

4. Develop and maintain relationships with tenant leaders, key NYCHA leadership, and external stakeholders such as elected officials and advocates.

5. Actively monitor both quantitative and qualitative data and metrics to evaluate the status of engagement and accomplish the target outreach goals.

6. Support the Director of Voter Engagement, the Modernization Vote Manager, and the Election Managers in creating the team's long-term implementation strategy.

7. Develop and create informational materials, including but not limited to flyers, posters, one-pagers, pamphlets, emails, etc., that will be distributed to residents.

Additional Information

1.Submit your cover letter and resume.

2.NYCHA employees applying for promotional, title or level change opportunities must have served a period of one year at current location and in current title and level (if applicable).

3.NYCHA residents are encouraged to apply.

4.NYCHA provides benefits that include a choice of medical coverage plans, deferred compensation plans and a defined pension benefit plan as a member of the New York City Employees' Retirement System (NYCERS).
