Job description
Orthopedic TechnicianThe Orthopedic Technician assists the care team in the clinic setting and works under the supervision of orthopedic providers. The Orthopedic Technician will assist providers in the treatment and care of patients with musculoskeletal injuries and conditions. Responsibilities include applying and removing casts, splints, and braces, assisting in procedures, and educating patients.Directly responsible to Specialty Care Practice Manager or designee; Works closely with orthopedic providers, and other hospital departmentsWorks in the general clinic setting. May be exposed to blood, body fluids, or tissues as well as patients in varying stages of infectious states.The information listed below is meant to serve as samples of job duties and responsibilities for positions in this classification. This list is neither inclusive nor exclusive, but indicative of several types of duties performed.Assist provider with documentation in patient medical record, including obtaining past medical history and other pertinent histories;Liaise between orthopedic providers, patients, ancillary service providers as needed to coordinate timely access to care;Responsible for ordering supplies for orthopedic clinic, includes maintaining DME inventory as needed;Maintain clinic flow in partnership with providers and other clinic staff; includes obtaining patient vital signs, queueing orders for providers, documenting in medical record;Carry out treatment plans as ordered by provider;Set up for and assist with clinic procedures, provide patient education as appropriate;Coordinate with surgery team, authorization team, rehabilitation team to ensure comprehensive, multidisciplinary patient care;Fabricate, adjust, and remove orthopedic devices (including braces, splints, casts);Coordinates completion of patient forms, including disability and other forms;Other duties as assigned;Performs phlebotomyKnowledge of:The Mission, Vision, and Values of Northern Inyo Healthcare District;NIHD policies and procedures, including Compliance Program, Code of Conduct, and Confidentiality standards;NIHD safety policies and procedures, including the Rainbow Chart, Employee Health, and Infection Prevention standards;General orthopedic care;Skills/Abilities to:Provide direct patient care in accordance with Orthopedic Technician scope of practice;Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with NIHD staff and patients ;Develop and maintain a high degree of maturity, integrity, and good judgement;Taping/fitting durable medical equipment, apply wound dressings, suture removal, casting, splinting.Minimum Qualifications:Experience: Education: Certification: Orthopedic Technician certification; phlebotomy certificationMonday - Friday 8:00 - 4:30 pm Full time
