PainterJob Pay Grade: Aux 6Duty Days: 260 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Date Revised: 06/25/2025 HCFunding Source: This position is locally funded.Minimum QualificationsThree (3) years of related experience with knowledge in the specialized field of painting is required. A valid Texas Driver's license is required, and it must be in possession at all times when operating an AISD vehicle. Education requirements are not specified.Skill RequirementsThis position requires the incumbent to have knowledge of the tools and equipment used, and paint mixing. Incumbent must be able to use proper solvents in each type of paint, be able to know the type of paint to use, and have skills in using brushes, rollers and spray equipment, and care of each. Incumbent should be able to mix colors to match other colors.Employees in this position must be able to read, write, and speak/communicate in English in order to receive and to provide work-related information in a timely manner to other employees, supervisors, principals, school personnel, volunteers and where appropriate, visitors and students.Job Purpose and ResponsibilityUnder general supervision, apply coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect exterior and interior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings and structures throughout the district. This position is responsible for painting exterior and interior AISD buildings.Essential FunctionsPrepare surfaces for painting, including sanding and removing old paint, filling holes, cracks, and joints with appropriate filler. Tape, float, and texture walls and ceilings.Select premixed paints or mix required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint to match specified colors.Paint surfaces, using brushes, spray gun, paint rollers, or other methods to achieve required effects. Stain, seal, and varnish wood surfaces.Paint classrooms and building exteriors.Mark parking areas and touch up painting.Erect scaffolding, set up ladders, or use hoists to perform tasks above ground level.Pick up and deliver painting supplies to campuses; maintain delivery records.Receive and complete work orders. Identify and complete needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment using established inspection procedures. Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.Austin ISD Job DescriptionMaintain inventory of tools and assist with inventory control of materials and equipment.Inspect jobs after completion and ensure areas are clean.Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensure equipment is in safe operating condition.Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.Handle and dispose of paint, stain, varnish, and other chemicals according to established procedures.Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the supervisor.Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.Provide an exceptional customer experience for all AISD stakeholders with intentional and professional practices that promote a culture of respect.Other Duties As AssignedPerform other related duties as assigned; however, all employees are expected to comply with lawful directives in rare situations driven by need where a team effort is required.Physical Effort and Work EnvironmentThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Regular attendance for this position is required.Tools/Equipment Used: Painting and drywall tools and equipment including brush, roller, spray equipment sand and water blaster; small hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools; light truck or vanPosture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positionsMotion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent drivingLifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basisEnvironment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, paint fumes, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travelMental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stressPersonal Work RelationshipsThis position reports to the appropriate supervisor of the department. Will have direct supervision of the Maintenance Apprentice in this craft.
