Position Overview
The Job Coach plays a vital role in supporting young adults with disabilities (ages 18 22) as they develop independence, employability skills, and community readiness. Job Coaches work directly with students in both school and community settings, providing individualized support in workplace placements, travel training, and daily living skill development. This is a highly interactive role that requires flexibility, collaboration, and a commitment to student success beyond the classroom.
Key Responsibilities
Provide on-site coaching and support for students at community-based job sites and internships.
Reinforce employability skills, workplace expectations, and independence in real-world settings.
Assist students in problem-solving, communication, and social interactions in the workplace.
Collaborate with employers, transition staff, and families to ensure successful placements.
Document student progress and provide feedback to the transition team.
Support students in community experiences designed to build independence and life skills.
Safely transport students in a district-provided 10-passenger van as part of their daily program schedule.
Qualifications Associates degree or completion of the ParaPro assessment required.
Experience working with young adults with disabilities in educational, vocational, or community settings preferred.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently in community environments and exercise sound judgment.
Commitment to supporting students in community and workplace environments daily, with responsibilities that extend beyond the school building.
Endorsement A license is required to operate a 10-passenger van. Candidates must either already hold this license or be able to obtain it. The cost of obtaining the endorsement is covered by Pupil Services. Please note: if a candidate leaves another position within the district to accept this role but does not obtain the required license within a reasonable amount of time, the district cannot guarantee continued employment if another position is not available.
Working Conditions
This is a community-based role. Job Coaches will spend much of the day outside of the school building, traveling with students to workplaces and community locations. Candidates must be comfortable with flexible schedules within the school day, varied work environments, and providing individualized support in real-world settings.
