Job description

Central Sterile Processing Adjunct InstructorThe Central Sterile Processing Adjunct Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in central sterile processing concepts and practices. This role prepares students for entry-level employment in sterile processing departments by providing didactic instruction, hands-on skills training, and professional mentorship consistent with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and certification expectations.Essential ResponsibilitiesDeliver classroom, laboratory, and/or hybrid instruction in central sterile processing topics, including:Infection prevention and controlDecontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, and sterilizationSterilization methods and monitoringInstrument identification and handlingCase cart preparation and distributionStorage and distribution of sterile suppliesQuality assurance and documentationRegulatory standards (AAMI, AORN, CDC, OSHA, The Joint Commission)Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with course objectives, program outcomes, and certification standards (e.g., CRCST).Demonstrate proper sterile processing techniques and equipment usage in a lab or simulated environment.Evaluate student performance through exams, skills check-offs, assignments, and competencies.Supervise and evaluate students in clinical settings, providing feedback and individualized guidance.Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress.Provide timely feedback, academic support, and mentorship to students.Promote professionalism, ethical conduct, and workplace readiness.Ensure a safe learning environment and compliance with institutional policies.Collaborate with program faculty, coordinators, and administration as needed.Participate in curriculum review, program assessment, and accreditation-related activities when requested.Physical Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.The employee will need to regularly operate and use computers, phones and other electronic equipment.The employee will frequently communicate and must be able to exchange accurate information with others.The employee may need to move around their office and/or campus to attend meetings/classes and to access files, machinery or other job-related tools.The employee may need to lift and/or move equipment, tools or paperwork up to 25 pounds.The employee may need to position themselves by reaching, stooping, kneeling or crouching in order to adjust or collect equipment and/or supplies.Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.Workplace Environment:Encounters low to moderate noise levels in the work environment.Ability to process information and exercise good judgement; ease of mobility within the work environment and other areas of campus and College locations; travel between campus locations may be required; and effective use of all forms of communication including use of computers.Qualifications & Degree RequirementsRequired Minimum Education/Training:High school diploma or equivalent.CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) certification.Minimum of two years of recent experience working in a sterile processing department or Surgical Technologist experience.Demonstrated knowledge of current sterile processing standards and best practices.Ability to teach adult learners effectively in classroom and laboratory settings.Preferred:Associate degree or higher in a related healthcare field.Teaching or precepting experience in a healthcare or academic setting.Experience with curriculum development or student evaluation.Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) and educational technology.Supplemental InformationMontgomery Community College provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.BenefitsThis position is not eligible for benefits.
