Part-Time CustodianThe Palmerton Area School District is seeking a part-time custodian. The candidate selected for this position will work 29.5 hours per week and will be assigned to provide custodial coverage in all buildings across the district. Applicants must submit an application, Act 34 Criminal, Act 151 Child Abuse and Act 114 FBI Fingerprinting clearances. Application materials can be found on the district website under the Human Resources tab.Position Summary: Responsible to service assigned facilities on a daily basis by maintaining a safe, clean, and sanitary facility and perform light maintenance as required but not limited to the prompt repair of furniture, hardware, lighting, and other items necessary for the daily operation of the facilities.Qualifications:Education/Experience: High School Diploma or GEDMaintain valid PA driver's licenseMinimum two (2) years of custodial experience in a commercial and institution setting, preferredSkills/Knowledge: Ability to work independently and multi-taskAbility to follow a set scheduleAbility to be flexible while demonstrating patience and professional demeanorAbility to communicate with staff and visitors with patience and understandingAbility to effectively communicate with students, staff, visitors, administrators, and general publicAbility to establish and maintain positive working relations with all staffAbility to work with staff in the performance of tasksKnowledge of characteristics of supplies and materials and alternative techniques commonly used in institutional housekeeping and routine maintenanceCompetency in filling out requisitions and related forms and in conducting inventories of equipment, supplies, and productsAbility to read and comprehend work orders, schedules, and/or written instructions or correspondencePossess or willingness to learn basic electrical, plumbing, and/or HVAC maintenanceAbility to use fractions in both linear and liquid measurementPhysical: Ability to utilize chemicals and equipment to perform custodian maintenance dutiesAbility to climb ladder, scaffold, and operate lift platform to high elevationsAbility to operate floor buffer/scrubber, vacuum, snow blower, hand tools, and various pieces of equipmentAbility to operate lawn mower, weed eater, and various ground keeping equipmentAbility to push and pull/move equipmentAbility to carry out shipping and receiving duties of the building, including but not limited to, assisting with deliveries and unloading trucksMust be able to lift, carry, push, and pull a weight of up to 55 pounds, carry it up to 100 yards, and to lift it to shoulder heightMust be able to reach over the head to retrieve objects to perform maintenance tasksMust be able to crawl into and work in confined spaces to do repairsMust be able to operate and pull equipment such as a hydraulic lift with up to a 1000-pound load with assistanceMust be able to stoop and bendMust be able to shovel snowMust be able to work in all weather elementsFunctions/Duties/Responsibilities:Provide cleaning services to all assigned areas of the facilities in accordance with district standards and schedulesMaintain building and supply inventory and reorder supplies as needed in accordance with district standardsSet up (prepare) facilities for all activitiesPerform minor maintenance and report larger maintenance items for repairProvide for the movement and coordination of equipmentObserve and control boilers and other plant equipment and systemsProvide routine maintenance to facility hardware in accordance with district standardsRepair furniture and fixture items as necessary (desks, dispensers, etc.)Provide seasonal exterior care in accordance with district standards including, but not limited to, winter elements, leaves, or debrisUnder direction of the Building Principal provide services on an occasional basisPromote work safety by reviewing and following district's safety policies and proceduresSecure facilities in accordance with district standardsDaily inspection of perimeter of building including, but not limited to, maintenance needs and security concernsTerms of Employment: 12-month position
