Job description
Provides comprehensive nursing care to Life Flight patients, adhering to Act 37 standards and protocols. Ensures patient safety, maintains thorough documentation, and operates within the scope of practice. Acts as a flight crew member, assisting pilots and participating in pre-mission briefings and debriefings. Maintains equipment, supplies, and aircraft interior, and serves as a clinical resource and preceptor for new staff and students. Ensures safety standards are met during all flight phases and participates in safety education activities.
Responsibilities Include
Accepting duty assignments across program sites as needed
Providing patient care from initial contact to transfer to medical facilities
Maintaining equipment, supplies, and aircraft environment
Documenting care in Electronic Medical Records
Communicating educational needs and participating in ongoing training
Serving as a transport resource for specialty team transports (ECMO, NICU)
Ensuring safety during flights and functioning as a role model and preceptor
Completing safety reports and participating in safety initiatives
Troubleshooting equipment and handling care challenges
Qualifications & Skills
Requires three years of critical care nursing experience and certification in CCRN, CEN, CFRN, or CTRN (CFRN within one year). Must practice within legal scope, maintain ongoing education, and have knowledge of medical equipment and safety protocols. Ability to lift at least 50 pounds and work in aircraft environments with exposure to noise, fumes, and extreme temperatures. Travel may be necessary.
